Cillian Murphy Gives Update On Peaky Blinders Movie

While Peaky Blinders wrapped up last year, there could be a movie in the works.

Cillian Murphy has had the year of his career with Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer--the sixth time they've collaborated--and finds himself as a strong contender for any number of acting awards during the upcoming awards season. Outside of his movie work, though, he's also starred for the last decade on the TV series Peaky Blinders--a show that he recently discovered Barbie star Margot Robbie is a huge fan of.

During Vanity Fair's Actors on Actors, Murphy and Robbie interviewed each other and talked about the "Barbieheimer" phenomenon from this past summer. The two talked about marketing the films, preparing for the roles, and if Murphy was familiar with the internet culture surrounding the very memeable movies. Then Robbie talked about Peaky Blinders, which has been turned into a few games--including a VR version, and wondered about the possibility of a spin-off movie.

"There are two kinds of people in this world: There are the people who are obsessed with Peaky Blinders, and then [there are] the people who haven’t seen Peaky Blinders," Robbie said. "I obviously sit in the first category, so can we please talk about Tommy f***ing Shelby for just one minute? I mean, that was years and years of your there going to be a spinoff movie?

Murphy said it was a decade of his career as they started shooting back in 2012, but didn't know if any plans had been made so far. "I mean, I'm open to the idea. I've always thought that if there’s more story to tell."

Robbie pleaded with the star saying "please do it. Please!"

Steven Knight, Peaky Blinders creator, has recently been attached to writing a Star Wars movie down the line.
