The Disney Investor Day has been a whirlwind. Major announcements from Star Wars, Pixar, and Marvel arrived, and one of the coolest was the reveal of the villain for Thor: Love and Thunder. Christian Bale will play none other than Gorr The God Butcher.

Bale was added to the cast in early January, but it was unknown at that time who he was playing. The character's name alone will give you a good idea of what to expect, when fans get to see Gorr on the big screen on May 6, 2022.

Created by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic, Gorr debuted in Thor: God of Thunder #2 (2013), Gorr is from a planet with no name whose parents died when he was young. He loses all his faith in the gods whom he's paid homage to all of his life. He happens on one of these supposed gods who fall on his planet, and refuses to help it. However, Gorr comes across Knull, an elder god who created the Symbiotes who gave him All-Black the Necrosword, which gives him unbelievable power, even the power to kill the gods. From there, you can guess what happens next. Gorr spends thousands of years earning the name The God Butcher.

The fourth movie in the Thor franchise will be a bit of an ensemble, with Chris Hemsworth returning as Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Chris Pratt as Star Lord, and Taika Waititi as Korg. Waititi will once again direct after his smashing success helming Thor: Ragnarok.
