Chris Pratt Passes On Playing Nathan Drake In Uncharted Movie

Guardians of the Galaxy star reportedly says no to lead role in upcoming movie; The Hurt Locker writer Mark Boal comes aboard.

According to a new report, the long-in-development movie based on Naughty Dog's Uncharted series is moving forward, though without Guardians of the Galaxy and Parks and Recreation actor Chris Pratt, who reportedly passed on the opportunity to portray series hero Nathan Drake in the forthcoming film.

The details come from The Hollywood Reporter. The Hollywood news publication says an offer was made to Pratt, who is also starring in 2015's Jurassic World, but he passed for reasons unknown. When director David O. Russell was attached to the project, Mark Wahlberg was eyed for the role before later dropping out.

In more positive news about the Uncharted movie, The Hollywood Reporter says Mark Boal, who won an Oscar for The Hurt Locker, has come aboard to work on the screenplay. The movie is now going to be directed by Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief director Seth Gordon.

Boal's attachment to the Uncharted movie might seem a little odd, given he's a former journalist best known for his hard-hitting stories featured in The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty. However, The Hollywood Reporter notes that he's rumored to be a big fan of the Uncharted series.

On the subject of what he's looking for from an actor to play Drake, Gordon outlined his wishes earlier this year.

"I want it to be a great actor," he said in July. "That's number one, and then if it's someone who has an actual jaw, that's even better. The game is so well done that you need it to live up to that. There's no way we'd do the inverse of that where it's somebody famous who can't [act]."

Dude, all these Hollywood clowns gotta do is call Nathan Fillion. Most of the people who played Uncharted probably had to get the damn manual out and flip to the back just to discover that it WASN'T him that did the voice, or the motion capture for the game. His character in Firefly was too eerily similar. You'd think with his show on CBS lasting longer than that channel's sad-ass CSI or CSI spinoff, or Criminal Minds, or NCIS crap would proves he's "good enough" to just cast him and start the damn movie. Just do it, get it over with. It's what fans want anyway. Except the bozos that always say "Oh, Gerard Butler would be cool because I kinda got a boner watching 300." And then all you gotta do is cast Powers Booth as Sully and you'll satisfy all the "gamer" audience and then just directly rip off the game's plot in the script and simultaneously satisfy the "non-gamer" audience. Instant #1 at the box office, and the first "good" game-to-movie adaptation since Silent Hill kinda-but-really-didn't deliver as much as that package could.

You know, the voice actor for Nathan Drake, Nolan North, actually looks a lot like Drake.

He may not be the right age to play the role in multiple movies or maybe he isn't a great actor. There are lots of great VO artists that I wouldn't really want to see as the lead in a movie.

that is a shame Pratt would have been really good for it, or a young Nathan Fillion, right now - I hate to say it - that guy from the twilight movies Robert Pattison looks about right, has the right jaw line and is actually a well trained english actor when not playing sissy vampire vs werewolves movies- Unfortunately he would have to get a tan, which I do not think anyone from London can.

Movies with 4+ credited writers tend to not be good. Did they hire him to polish a turd or to write an Uncharted movie is the question.

This is such a stupid idea. Stop trying to make movies when its not going to be true to the game or the fans. Talk about a waste of millions.

@Slyster1181 @Godly_Kongming I agree on the old and fat, as it hits us all- A young Nathan would work, But he is an incredible actor- unfortunately he only has one range - Mel -from firefly- which works really well in alot of movies and roles.

I don't blame Mark Wahlberg for dropping out after the disaster that the Max Payne movie turned out to be. He knows that movies adapted from video games suck.

And it looks like Chris Pratt knows that video game movies suck as well, so he made a wise decision rejecting this job.

Will this basically turn out the same as the previous attempts to make this film? i.e. it's in the hands of this director for a couple of years before the project falls apart and he pulls out.

Oh man! That would've been perfect!

As much as I love him I'm starting to think Nathan Fillion might be too old for the part now. I wonder if Chris Evans might be good for it.

I'm a fan of Nathan Fillion, but he is too out of shape and kinda old to be playing Drake. He is got the silly attitude, but he is going to have to hit the gym hard if he wants that part.
