Chris Pratt Passes On Playing Nathan Drake In Uncharted Movie

Guardians of the Galaxy star reportedly says no to lead role in upcoming movie; The Hurt Locker writer Mark Boal comes aboard.

According to a new report, the long-in-development movie based on Naughty Dog's Uncharted series is moving forward, though without Guardians of the Galaxy and Parks and Recreation actor Chris Pratt, who reportedly passed on the opportunity to portray series hero Nathan Drake in the forthcoming film.

The details come from The Hollywood Reporter. The Hollywood news publication says an offer was made to Pratt, who is also starring in 2015's Jurassic World, but he passed for reasons unknown. When director David O. Russell was attached to the project, Mark Wahlberg was eyed for the role before later dropping out.

In more positive news about the Uncharted movie, The Hollywood Reporter says Mark Boal, who won an Oscar for The Hurt Locker, has come aboard to work on the screenplay. The movie is now going to be directed by Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief director Seth Gordon.

Boal's attachment to the Uncharted movie might seem a little odd, given he's a former journalist best known for his hard-hitting stories featured in The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty. However, The Hollywood Reporter notes that he's rumored to be a big fan of the Uncharted series.

On the subject of what he's looking for from an actor to play Drake, Gordon outlined his wishes earlier this year.

"I want it to be a great actor," he said in July. "That's number one, and then if it's someone who has an actual jaw, that's even better. The game is so well done that you need it to live up to that. There's no way we'd do the inverse of that where it's somebody famous who can't [act]."

Back in the day I always thought Ryan Reynolds or Colin Ferrel could play Nathan Drake, Jon Voight as Sully and Emily Blunt and Scarlett Johansson as Elena . Cooper would be pretty rad. I could also see Jeremy Renner, Gerard Butler, Tom Hardy, Chris Pine and even Ben Affleck.

I don't think Ryan Reynolds is the best actor but I think his charm, wit, and smarts humor make him perfect for the role. I do think Renner is also a viable option as he was on the Hurt Locker,

This movie probably won't do well in the first place, and Chris Pratt doesn't really fit Nathan.

Oh man a younger Tom cruise would have been perfect for this role. I'll have to go with Bradley Cooper.

Pretty understandable from his perspective(Especially after Wahlberg dropping out), but I don't know, this movie could go either way.

It seems they really want to make a good movie.

Good move propably. He already as plenty of big budgeted projects in the pipeline, the videogame movies aren't exctly known for their quality and Drake is too similiar to Starlord, it would seem like a retread

@Metallicwolf29 the same that makes any actor good, being able to act in a believable way, and take ques from the director so that you (the viewer) forget that the person he is playing isn't in fact just a dude that some writer made up in a book or a script.

Given the director's Seth Gordon, I think I'd like to see Jason Bateman play Drake... Even if Seth Gordon wasn't directing, I'd still think Jason Bateman would make a good Drake

<< LINK REMOVED >> I really hope you're joking. Jason Bateman is awesome but he is in no way, shape or form suitable to play Drake.

What about Nathan Fillion!? Why is no one talking about him? I assumed he'd be the obvious choice here.

why not cast Alex O'loughlin? he's a good and well known actor, he has the required charisma, very athletic, and he REALLY looks like Nathan Drake. so what else is there?? and to the guys who ask for Nathan Fillion, i do like his acting and his personality but lets face it, he's too old to play Drake, and so are most of Hollywood's super stars.

Pity. Pratt is pretty likable.

Wahlberg is kind of a d0uche.

But seriously, the obvious choice for the role is Adam Sandler.

Get Nolan North dammit! He looks like Drake, voices Drake, and is Drake. Emily Rose should play Elena as well.

Jeebus gamers, let go of the Nathan Fillion thing, he's not been the man he was in Firefly for many many years. For me, this role is absolutely made for Bradley Cooper, although Pratt would have been great too.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I've always had Cooper in this role as well. He has everything it would require. Also he's an actor that should have had his own franchise (Hangover more of an ensemble) by now.

I was never thinking of Pratt in this but I agree he also would have been great. But with his commitments to Marvel and now being the lead in Jurassic World.

It could easily be a matter of scheduling conflict, eyeing something that would not be possible if he was contracted to Uncharted. Whoever's chosen must ooze charisma or at least be able to play the role that way. The guy can't be past his 30s nor out of shape, that rules out Nathan Fillion. And oh goodness please no Ryan Reynolds, as good as he may be.

For Sully's role William Hurt could be perfect. Or the actual Richard McGonagle. If there's any Karl Schaffer then Christopher Plummer takes that. There are quite a few good options for Elena including the game's own and it'd be difficult to cast poorly there, so fingers crossed not to be proved wrong. Gavin Rossdale for Harry Flynn.

Depending on the timeline i'd say if it's a younger Drake version (like say from Uncharted 1 & 2 days) then go with actor Tyler Hoechilin --> << LINK REMOVED >> from the Teen Wolf series and if it's an older version (from 3 or 4 that's coming) then go with Nathan Fillion --> << LINK REMOVED >> !!

Smart move by Pratt. With his role as Star Lord and the lead in Jurassic World, he needs to shoot for some non-genre work to fill the gaps. Plus a project that has been in development hell this long isn't a good career move coming off a smash hit.
