Chris Evans Puts Rumors Of New MCU Appearance To Bed

Will this be the return of a young Captain America or old man Rogers?

When we last saw Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was during Avengers: Endgame, when the former Captain America decided to live out his life with his sweetheart Peggy Carter--effectively erasing the timeline where she married someone else--and he showed up as an old man, having lived a normal life. A rumor seemed to put this into doubt, with mentions of Evans potentially returning for at least one more film. However, Evans himself has put these rumors to rest with a post on his Twitter account.

According to sources speaking to Deadline, Evans will be returning to the role for future MCU projects. Insiders claim that the deal is headed towards closing and the actor will show up in one more Marvel property with the option for a second. If Evans is unaware of this, however, it seems unlikely it's actually happening.

If Captain America does ever make a return, fans shouldn't expect a young Captain America to reappear--unless it's a flashback sequence or an appearance in the Disney+ series Loki, which will take place before the events of Endgame and also cover multiple timelines and universes.

Chances of a fourth Captain America movie are exceptionally slim with Evans in the starring role--especially since he passed the torch to Sam Wilson at the end of Endgame. However, Evans could fill the same type of role Robert Downey Jr. did in Spider-Man: Homecoming as a mentor to the next person--Wilson--carrying the red, white, and blue shield.

While we'll just have to wait and see how Evans will fit into the next MCU installments, if those negotiations ever do start, Phase 4 kicks off on January 15 when WandaVision hits Disney+. If you're curious about the show, check out GameSpot's WandaVision review. Chris E. Hayner gave the first three episodes a 9 out of 10 saying, "WandaVision is an undeniable success. Marvel Studios attempted something they hadn't tried before and wound up with a show that's somehow a classic family sitcom that is also propelling forward the storytelling of the universe of epic films that has been unspooling for over a decade. Now you will just have to wait for the slow burn narrative to reveal itself."

Chris Evans didn't put the rumors to bed....he posted a cryptic tweet that can mean anything.

Is it only me or journalists these days don't understand English?

THis Time Travel BS ruined the whole thing (In my humble opinion).

Especially Captain America, going back in time, creating a parallel universe in which he erased Peggy's Family, and then, somehow, managing to come back to the original timeline to give pass the mantle of Captain America to someone else.

This is also known as a PLOTHOLE.

Winter soldier is one of my favorite MCU movies. I’d love to see him back but he’s openly expressed his desire to move on from the role soooooooooo....

Not sure why anyone would take that tweet as 100% confirmation. That kind of return would probably be intended to be a surprise. I can’t imagine he’d say anything other than what he said.

I mean, if his return is meant to be a surprise, what else would he say? He isn't bound by a moral contract to tell the truth with a Tweet. Hell, we should be long since used to non-truths being told on Twitter...

I can’t really blame any actor for having a hard time stepping away from Marvel. It’s hard to walk away from that Marvel money.

Not to mention that having a new Captain America is one thing, but having an Anthony Mackie Captain America is a completely different thing. I’ve been saying it ever since the shield got handed to him; he does not have the stage presence to have a lead role like that. Did anyone else watch him in the second season of Altered Carbon? He was awful. I can’t take him seriously. A B-squad character like Falcon is perfect for him.

@justthetip: I don’t think he had a hard time walking away. I think Disney execs had a hard time with Marvel killing off Iron Man, Cap, Vision and Black Widow. Now, with the death of Black Panther, they’re rethinking things and I don’t doubt that, at the least, Vision and Black Widow will be returning.

Let’s face it. Enthusiasm for phase 4 isn’t exactly high, right now. Especially with Marvel’s gay push.

Anyone else donning the Cap uniform will appear rubbish and foolish, especially Anthony Mackie. The Falcon is avg to ok but there's no way he can pull off Capt America.

The whole Marvel series will collapse if they screw these castings. Why it worked all along was PERFECT casting except for a few (Spider-man was meh and his movies were absolute trash).

Perfect casting in order - Thor, Iron Man, Capt America, Ultron, Dr. Strange, Hulk, Loki, Thanos, Black Panther, Drax etc.

@fanirama: they need to change at some point. hemsworth is not a real god who stays in shape forever

also i like until endgame its a giant saga and now its a new start. a new start that gets weird and we can take a break and decide its just extra spinoffs now. i saw enough good marvel comic movies. now time for something else. i know some people would like to have million comics repeating the same stuffs but opinions

"erasing the timeline"

I don't think that is how that worked. He lived out his life with Peggy in a parallel universe timeline then jumped back over to his home timeline after Peggy had died. He might have erased the events from that alternate timeline, but not from his own.

If I remember correctly, could be wrong, but didn't Peggy have kids from the timeline where Steve got frozen and she married someone else? If that's the case, then I guess it's ok to keep children from being born since he did help save everyone. Again, I could be wrong.

@mooglestar: The Falcon? I really like the character, but don't know how effective he would be without the super soldier stuff that Cap had.
