Child's Play Is Getting A Reboot

First the clown, now the doll.

Seems like Hollywood directors are really feeling the 80's nostalgia lately. Childs Play is getting a reboot so Chucky can return to haunt our nightmares.

In the original Child's Play franchise from the 1980s, a family is plagued by a doll that's possessed by a serial killer. MGM is being very hush-hush about the plot details, but Collider reports that it will follow a group of kids squaring off with a new age version of Chucky that's more technologically advanced. The film will be produced by David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith, who also produced It.

Now Playing: The Biggest Movies To Watch In 2018

Whether it will be a true horror film or more of a jokey version in the vein of the later films in the original franchise is unclear. It begins production in September in Vancouver and it will be directed by Lars Klevberg who also directed the horror movie Polaroid. Tyler Burton Smith will write the script; he wrote Kung Fury 2 as well as the video game Quantum Break.

There's no release date for the Child's Play movie yet, but according to The Hollywood Reporter , MGM is eager to get started.

Cult of Chucky was just released in 2017, and sits at an 82% on Rotten Tomatoes (which is HIGH for a horror franchise sequel). That movie even involved the original writer and Chucky actor since the first movie.

There's no reason to "reboot" this.

Terrible timing. The last 2 were actually very good movies.

Was looking forward to seeing where they were going with that storyline but oh well.

They'll reboot or remake Jaws next. That's how lame Hollywood has gotten this decade.

Hey wait?

How can Sony (who owns MGM) make a remake when they don't own the rights to the franchise itself? Universal Studios bought the franchise decades ago, only thing Sony owns is the first film which is NOT the series rights.

Was the Freddy reboot any good? Halloween is doing an alternate re-telling and Chucky is getting rebooted. That just leaves Jason then. Unless you're going to count Leatherface's movies (which I admittedly have never seen). No clue what franchise he's actually apart of and too lazy to google.

@xOmniCloudx: Here are your answers!

1) The 2010 Freddy remake was a piece of crap movie that shouldn't have been made. Don't even bother looking it up, it's pretty awful as awful remakes get.

2) The new "Halloween" movie is actually a direct sequel to the original 1978 movie and ignores all the stupid sequels/remakes that came out in between, including those dumbass Rob Zombie movies. I think it's gonna be a pretty awesome movie but we'll have to wait and see.

3) Leatherface is from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, to which they have made so many sequels/prequels/remakes at this point that I don't even know which movie is supposed to follow which one since the whole "timeline" is such a freaking mess.

Bonus Answer: I haven't been keeping track of the next Jason movie but last I heard they were supposed to make a sequel to the '09 reboot, but the movie rights got bought out by someone else (I have no idea who currently owns them) and Jason has been stuck in limbo ever since the copyright shuffle... I have no idea if they'll ever get to make another Jason movie at this point since I don't even know who owns the rights anymore...

@Simulator_Shock: Wait, there was a Jason reboot a decade ago? Last Jason movie I remember was Freddy vs Jason. Also, I figured Leatherface was Texas Chainsaw Massacre but just was being too lazy to double check so didn't bother writing it. I remember an old commercial for it saying it was based on a true story or something.

Don Mancini and Brad Dourif are doing a Chucky TV series that's continuing from Cult of Chucky. I'm more interested in that, thanks.

This sounds like a really awful idea, Chucky is perfectly fine and doesn't need a goddamn reboot...

Are they out of ideas? So many classics are getting rebooted, it's getting ridiculous.
