Ubi Soft Entertainment has announced Chessmaster 9000, the next installment in the long-running Chessmaster chess simulation game series. The new game will improve on its best-selling predecessors with new tools to help players improve their game, including a course on the psychology of competition by International Master Josh Waitzkin, a new endgame quiz from Grand Master Larry Evans, and a new blunder alert feature that notifies players of better moves when they move into danger. The game will also have new online features such as free matchmaking through ubi.com, special chat events, and rated games.

"Players of all skill levels will enjoy Chessmaster 9000 as they discover the fun of mastering the game of chess," said Laurent Detoc, president of Ubi Soft. "With over 5 million units sold worldwide, the Chessmaster franchise is in a class by itself as the premier brand and undisputed world champion of chess."

Chessmaster 9000 will be released as a two-CD set this fall, and it is designed to appeal to both beginners and veteran chess players. The game will contain extensive amounts of personal instruction and chess resource material, including a full set of tutorials that will introduce players to the rules and strategies of chess.

The Chessmaster series was first launched in 1986. The most recent game in the series, Chessmaster 8000, was released in 2000 by Mattel Interactive. For more information, take a look at our previous coverage of the Chessmaster games.
