Check Out Rise of the Tomb Raider's Neat Interactive Twitch Features

The new features aim to "heighten player engagement."

Microsoft and Twitch have announced a partnership for new interactive features for the just-released action-adventure game, Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Rise of the Tomb Raider players who stream the game in Expedition Mode through the Twitch app on Xbox One can allow their viewers decide which Expedition Cards are used during gameplay. The card with the most votes is activated for a period of five minutes, changing up the gameplay on the fly.

Some of the Expedition Cards (which you don't need to have previously unlocked) include Big Head mode and Rainbow Trail. Watch the video above to see how this new interactive voting system works in Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Alternatively, anyone who watches Rise of the Tomb Raider streams through the Xbox One Twitch app will receive gifts of in-game credits when the players they watch complete side missions, challenge tombs, crypts, and other challenges. You can then redeem the credits through Rise of the Tomb Raider's in-game store to buy things like Expedition Card Packs, or new weapons and outfits.

According to Microsoft, "These interactive features will heighten player engagement with the game [and] keep the Twitch experience fresh for both streamers and viewers."

A full breakdown and FAQ of Rise of the Tomb Raider's new Twitch functionality is available here. Microsoft has not announced if similar functionality might come to other games, though if you think that's a good idea, you can vote for it on the Xbox Feedback website.

GameSpot's Rise of the Tomb Raider review scored the action-adventure game a 9/10. For more on the game's critical reception, check out this roundup of editor opinions and scores. You can also check out GameSpot's guide for everything you need to know about Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Interesting concept... But who is going to watch a scrub like me play a video game? That's a good question.
