Cheaters And Hackers Have Hit Hyper Scape, Here's How Ubisoft Is Responding

Like other battle royale game before it, Ubisoft's Hyper Scape has been targeted by hackers and cheaters. In a forum post, Ubisoft said its own data, and the feedback from the community, has shown that cheaters and hackers are "popping up more and more" in the game.

Ubisoft is treating the issue with the "highest priority," and the company has now outlined some of its plans to thwart the offending players.

Hyper Scape uses the BattlEye technology for anti-cheat. Ubisoft said it has "direct lines of communication" with the developers of the anti-cheat tools to help find and remove bad actors.

In Hyper Scape, BattlEye is triggered on when players enter matchmaking. You might have seen videos of hacks and other manipulations of the map in the lobby and training areas of the game, but that's because BattlEye doesn't kick in until matchmaking, Ubisoft said.

Anyone using hacks will have their accounts flagged "within minutes of detection," Ubisoft said. Right now, however, Ubisoft is not banning players immediately in an effort to "help obfuscate the offending action the disruptive player has taken."

The BattlEye tech has already banned more than 10,000 accounts for cheating, Ubisoft said.

Also in the blog post, Ubisoft said it understands people want to see a player-reporting tool in Hyper Scape, and this will come to the game with the start of Season 1 "very soon."

"Once live, we will be iterating on and expanding the feature set of the in-game player-reporting tool, with substantial improvements planned to its capabilities during Season 1, Season 2, and onward," Ubisoft said.

The developer added that its legal team has already shut down more than 50 providers of cheating software. "Both in the case of individual disruptive users and cheat makers, we must rely on a strong partnership with you, our player community, in bringing them to light," Ubisoft said. "We urge you to share information on these providers when you find them, and if you have clear evidence of a player cheating, please contact us with the evidence and their username."

Ubisoft added: "Dealing with cheaters can at times feel like an overwhelming game of whack-a-mole, but we want you to know we’re on top of it, and with our collective effort against them we can keep the Hyper Scape a fair and fun place we all want to spend our time."

Hyper Scape is a free-to-play battle royale game that's currently in beta--you can try it out for yourself right now on PC. The game will also be released on PS4 and Xbox One.
