CES 2007: Day 1 (1/8/2007)

It's been a hectic kind of day, but surprisingly fun. We had an early morning since our meetings started at 9am. With all the craziness that happens with cab lines and traffic during CES we headed out at 8am after getting some chow at 7am. Once we hit the convention center we fanned out to our various appointments. Editors hit up the gaming folk for demos and interviews while Mac and Rich went around to film bits for our show later in the day. Our schedule was pretty packed so I didn't wind up getting the chance to do much exploring of the show floor. CES isn't really a videogame show anymore but there's inevitably a games showing and often a few surprises. Sony doesn't have any surprise PS3 or PSP stuff on the show floor really, except for Def Jam Icon. Probably the coolest thing in the booth, besides the amazing TV's, is a kiosk showing off the different pro duos that's pretty dope (a 32 gig card in 2009 seems insane). Thought not officially on the floor, SOE is showing off the six Midway games it's having Digital Eclipse do for the PlayStation store. We're crossing our fingers that the game turns out well.

Microsoft is showing off a sampling of released and unreleased stuff for Xbox 360 and Live Arcade. Def Jam Icon is looking great on 360 and hotness like Alien Hominid and Castlevania Symphony of the Night definitely make us jump in the right places. Although Nintendo isn't officially here the Wii is, with Majesco showing off titles and various folks on the floor showing the system off with released titles. So you've got representation for the big three, just not at E3 levels. We've also got a live show going today and tomorrow that's just an hour each day, which seems like the right speed for what the show has to offer. Today we had Guitar Hero II, Cooking Mama for Wii, and SOE with the Midway titles announced for PS3 download. Not a bad selection to get from CES. I'm looking forward to all three but am probably most excited for MKII if it's done right and plays well online. As much as I dig UMK3 on Live Arcade, I have a real soft spot for MKII so I'm hoping it gets done right.

After the show was done we went to go write and post which ate up the evening. Now we're back and gonna grab a quick bite before passing out and resting up for a more mellow day. Tomorrow's clean up and looking over the CES forum to see if we can answer any questions you guys have.
