Celeste Is Selling Better On Switch Than PS4, Xbox One, And PC

Celeste, the recently released platformer from the team behind TowerFall, is selling quite well on Nintendo Switch, it seems. Creator Matt Thorson told Destructoid that the Switch edition is selling the best as compared to PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Thorson said this is in line with what the developers were anticipating, given they thought the Switch was a "perfect" fit for the difficult but rewarding and emotional game.

"The Switch version of Celeste has sold the most, and that's what we were expecting. We feel like Celeste and the Switch are a perfect fit for each other," he said. "We are glad we launched on all consoles though, and we really appreciate the support we've seen across the board."

Thorson declined to share any specific sales numbers for Celeste on any platform, but it is interesting to note that the Switch edition has sold the best. The Switch console has sold around 14.8 million units, which is below the sales marks of the PS4 and Xbox One, and of course is nowhere near how many PCs are out there.

Celeste is a challenging game with a story that focuses on mental health issues. In addition to all the main screens, there are B-Side levels, which you must unlock by finding hidden tapes in the main game. GameSpot's Celeste review scored the game a 9/10. "[Main character Madeline's struggle is one made easy to empathize with, her low points painful to watch, and her high notes exhilarating to experience," reviewer Oscar Dayus said. "Her tale is delicately told and beautifully illustrated, confidently coalescing with the satisfying, empowering game it lies within. Not bad for a game about climbing a mountain."

Celeste is available currently on all platforms for $20.
