It seems to be public knowledge (in Japan, at least) that adventure game Catherine is difficult because of its climbing and block-laden puzzles that requires no room for error. According to Atlus' official Catherine homepage (translated by Siliconera), the PlayStation 3 patch is live and will make a gamer's life easier with a new difficulty mode called Super Easy mode.

This mode will give players the ability to summon a drink that makes main character Vincent climb three tiers of steps in one move. Players can do this by holding down select on the PS3 to do this multiple times. The patch also updates the number of retries a player gets from collecting a pillow during a puzzle. The pillows are now worth three retries in Easy mode, while they are worth two retries in Normal mode.

Catherine will be in English this July.

Atlus' patch also fixes the issues found in the online leaderboards where player names are not appearing in the rankings to reflect the balance changes. As an additional bonus for players who aren't keen about the changes, gamers can reset Catherine to its original pre-patch state by pressing L3 and R3 on their PS3 controllers at the same time.

While the patch is out now for the PS3, the Xbox 360 version has yet to be announced. The English version of Catherine will be out on July 26 for both the PS3 and Xbox 360.
