After several weeks of negotiations, Eli Roth's Borderlands movie has closed a deal with Cate Blanchett to star as Lilith, The Hollywood Reporter is claiming. This news comes after Blanchett's hat was first thrown into the ring back at the beginning of May.

The Borderlands movie has been in development since 2016, but has been subjected to no shortage of delays and postponements. Now, with both Roth signed on to direct and Lionsgate backing the film, it seems things are finally moving forward in a meaningful way.

Now Playing: The Evolution Of Borderlands

Borderlands fans will no doubt recognize Blanchett's character, Lilith, as one of the franchise's many eccentric protagonists. A "siren" from the planet Dionysus, Lilith has superpowers which she uses to cause all kinds of chaos in the explosive in-game world.

It is currently unknown when the Borderlands movie will begin production, let alone when fans should expect it in theaters.
