The new Netflix movie Metal Lords from Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff is progressing with the announcement of its main cast. It's the first project coming from the Game of Thrones showrunners as part of their mega-rich deal with Netflix.

The movie tells the story of three kinds who want to start a heavy metal band. Jaeden Martell, who starred in the new Stephen King It movies and Knives Out, will play one of the leads, alongside Isis Hainsworth (The Victim, Wanderlust) and Adrian Greensmith, who is making his feature film debut with the project.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist director Peter Sollett is attached to direct Metal Lords. He's also lined up to direct the long-in-development Minecraft movie.

Metal Lords is scheduled to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2021. It's written and produced by Weiss, with Benioff serving as the executive producer.

The movie tells the story of two kids who start a metal band to win Battle of the Bands, even though they are the only kids in school who like heavy metal.

Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello is also an executive music producer on Metal Lords, which is a positive sign for the film.

After finishing the hugely successful Game of Thrones series, Weiss and Benioff were set to direct a new trilogy of Star Wars films. However, they dropped out of those movies and instead signed a five-year, $250 million deal with Netflix.

Weiss and Benioff are also working on a show called The Overstory with Hugh Jackman, a sci-fi series called The Three Body Problem, and a show called The Chair starring Sandra Oh.
