Brie Larson, the Oscar winning actress who will be seen next as Captain Marvel, is apparently interested in playing Samus Aran, should Nintendo ever decide to go forward with a Metroid film.

As evidenced on her Instagram page, Larson dressed up as Zero Suit Samus for Halloween this year. After posting images of herself in costume, fans took notice and asked about a potential Metroid movie. Larson said she hopes it happens someday. "I want to make that movie," she wrote.

Nintendo hasn't made any announcements about a Metroid movie, but the company is increasingly interested in taking its franchises to the big screen. A new Mario movie from Despicable Me and Minions studio Illumination is on the way. Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Despicable Me franchise producer Chris Meladandri are co-producing the untitled film.

Larson isn't the other celebrity who wants to play Samus in a Metroid movie. Ronda Rousey, the MMA and wrestling star who also makes movies now, previously talked about wanting to play Samus someday.

"I've always wanted to be Samus. That would be badass," Rousey said. "I love how people found out later that it was a hot chick on the inside. And then most of the day you're in a suit, so you can just hang out and eat donuts and be the star of Metroid. I hope they make a movie out of that."

The next Metroid game is Metroid Prime 4, which is coming to Nintendo Switch. Pretty much nothing is known about it. The earlier Metroid Prime games were developed by Retro Studios, but it appears Bandai Namco is producing the new one for Nintendo Switch.

Larson won the Best Actress Oscar for her starring role in Room. Her next major role is Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in the upcoming superhero film Captain Marvel, which is due out in March 2019. She's set to appear again as Captain Marvel in April 2019's untitled Avengers 4.

That's the extent of Rousey's intelligence. "They find out it's a girl in the suit!" Ahhh ya ok, that would be a good point to any movie? Maybe they'll do another character from another game and when they take off the suit of armor you find out it was a guy!!!! Ya!! That would be INTENSE! :-|

Good old Eddie:

I think you meant "only", not "other".

Too bad she just did what every other THOT does and went as Zero Suit Samus...if she went full armor then I'd actually have some respect for her for doing this.

Memes I have acquired over a very long writing career. Memes that make me a goodnightmare for shitposters like you. If you let my original comment go now that'll be the end of it. I will not look for your facebook profile, I will not spam you, but if you don't, I will look for your facebook profile, I will spam you and I will meme you.

Considering she's Captain Marvel I hope she sticks with that. I'm also not a fan of Cavill who said he's pretty much the biggest Superman fan in the world, and then he quit it first to be a mediocre baddie in MI and then to become Geralt.

Connery is Bond, Moore is Bond, West is Batman, RDJ is Iron Man... I kind of wish they stuck more with choosing a character and perfecting that. Of course, if the original movie series completely stops existing then they need new jobs, but have some commitment.

@Bread_or_Decide: mistake or not, the gender of someone should never be the point of any story. Unless people are dumb and shallow and that's all they care about. The viewpoints expressed in this article are that of sjw's.

Avatar image for Bread_or_Decide
Bread_or_Decide

@therogerwilco: so I guess the story of the first black women to work at nasa should not be about their race or gender? Clearly some stories have the gender and race being of great importance.

Avatar image for therogerwilco
therogerwilco

@Bread_or_Decide: Do we look at someone's race as a factor of their worth or not?

Avatar image for Bread_or_Decide
Bread_or_Decide

@therogerwilco: Like I said some stories are about race and gender. So you cant say no story should be about race and gender. What is coco without its mexican culture? What is wonder woman without callbacks to its origins as one of the first female superheroes. Ignoring it is also not an answer. race and gender is a large part of who we are as people do why should stories ignore it? Because you say so?

Avatar image for therogerwilco
therogerwilco

@Bread_or_Decide: You're not grasping what I'm saying. There should be no stories about race because it's discrimination. Period. Why should one person's viewpoint on race be accepted and someone else's ignored? Because one was family friendly and one was considered racist? They are BOTH discriminatory.

Don't be so naive. The only way society will ever get rid of racism, sexism, etc, will be to understand that there should be no tolerance of it as topic of conversation. You want to do a story of the first black person to work at NASA? What about the first Mexican, Italian, Iraqi, or Korean? You elevate one, but not the others? That's racism.

You do a story about the first female to be in anything, are you also writing about the first male, female transgender, male transgender, or hermaphrodite in those same positions?

You elevate one you reduce the others. Best not to address those things as the "meat" of the story. For one they don't mean anything.(again, if we're supposed to assign worth to people's races, please say so) And two, they make for a boring story.

@therogerwilco: I’m glad no one shares your ignorant opinion. May all future films that celebrate diversity continue to upset you.

Avatar image for therogerwilco
therogerwilco

@Bread_or_Decide: How is it ignorant to wish people to stop discriminating? Or would you enjoy a movie of "diversity", as you put it, that celebrates southern USA heritage of Caucasian individuals?

Avatar image for Bread_or_Decide
Bread_or_Decide

@therogerwilco: steel magnolias, walk the line, fried green tomatoes. Plenty of films about our fine southern heritage in America.

I don’t know how old you are or how much education you have but if your answer is to ignore race and gender that is absolutely not a solution to discrimination. You want some bland homogenized world of art and music and books and films? Like it or not our gender and race are a part of who we are as a people. The answer is not to ignore it. That doesn’t end anything. Empathy and understandjng and acceptance is what we need. Films can be about anything they want based on the experiences of the writers directors and thousands of other people involved who bring their own experiences into their work.

What you’re asking for is not only absurd it’s downright scary. A world where we all pretend we have no differences. But we do, and when we start to accept those differences is when discrimination ends. Not by making sure all movies ignore the very fabric of what makes people people. And if you don’t think where you come from, who raised you, or your heritage make up a piece of what you are in life then frankly i feel sorry for you.

I pray you’re just a misguided 13yr old and that in time you realize how so very wrong you are in your “answer” to discrimination.

Avatar image for therogerwilco
therogerwilco

@Bread_or_Decide: Southern movies that celebrate Caucasians. None of those movies do. They're southern yes but don't mention "celebrating white people".

But really, you want to see movies about race or gender, go for it. But ya better make one for everyone, or you're leaving someone out, and that's the very basis of discrimination.

I still think as long as society thinks the color of someone's skin matters, like what you're saying, it's "two steps back" for eliminating racism. As long as a woman or mixed-gender individual is celebrated for their gender, you better celebrate men too, or you're inherently brewing sexism.

All I'm saying is be fair, you're saying it doesn't matter. Get smart.

Avatar image for Bread_or_Decide
Bread_or_Decide

@therogerwilco: be fair? Almost every group has a film about them. By big fat greek wedding. Crazy rich asians. Slum dog millionaire.

The list is endless. And what do you mean fair? 99% of all films are about straight white men, and you’re complaining about the one or two that star other people? Your argument makes absolutey no sense.

Avatar image for therogerwilco
therogerwilco

@Bread_or_Decide: Do you reflect about Iron Man and think, "A great story about a hot white guy"! Or Fearless by Jet Li, and think, "Oh that male Asian?" Or maybe Clueless and Alicia Silverstone, thinking "That hot white female!"

Maybe after Metroid Prime 4? I have no doubt this game will sell pretty well, so maybe it will be reason enough for a Sci Fy movie and if so, she could indeed portray Samus Aran if she gets lucky.

@Barighm: I agree especially because she had the money to have a full power suit varia suit or Fusion suit made for her instead we get something that looks cheap and spandex but you have to understand once girls get of age Halloween is a whole sluty dress up party

Avatar image for Barighm

@vulpeka: Well, that's sexist. I guarantee you many girls like to dress in good costumes that are just plain "good", NOT because they're sexy.

Avatar image for vulpeka

As long as it's not as bad as Metroid The Other M

And there needs to be a correction on the article because every real Metroid fan knows there's a difference between Zero Suit Samus and actual Samus no varia suit no power suit no fusion suit and she's just like every other girl who could go to Fye or go to amazon.com and buy a spandex catsuit

Avatar image for TTB1

@ClunkerSlim: I doubt that double is for her, it's far easier and cheaper to just put her in padded panties. The stand in they're looking for is likely a bikini shot. Brie is also supposed to be 5'7, taller than the ad asks for.
