Captain Marvel Star Brie Larson Wants To Be Samus In A Metroid Movie

The Captain Marvel actress is eager to play Samus in a movie that hasn't been announced and may never happen.

Brie Larson, the Oscar winning actress who will be seen next as Captain Marvel, is apparently interested in playing Samus Aran, should Nintendo ever decide to go forward with a Metroid film.

As evidenced on her Instagram page, Larson dressed up as Zero Suit Samus for Halloween this year. After posting images of herself in costume, fans took notice and asked about a potential Metroid movie. Larson said she hopes it happens someday. "I want to make that movie," she wrote.

Zero Suit Samus had an evening with Harry Potter and it was cute.

Nintendo hasn't made any announcements about a Metroid movie, but the company is increasingly interested in taking its franchises to the big screen. A new Mario movie from Despicable Me and Minions studio Illumination is on the way. Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Despicable Me franchise producer Chris Meladandri are co-producing the untitled film.

Larson isn't the other celebrity who wants to play Samus in a Metroid movie. Ronda Rousey, the MMA and wrestling star who also makes movies now, previously talked about wanting to play Samus someday.

"I've always wanted to be Samus. That would be badass," Rousey said. "I love how people found out later that it was a hot chick on the inside. And then most of the day you're in a suit, so you can just hang out and eat donuts and be the star of Metroid. I hope they make a movie out of that."

The next Metroid game is Metroid Prime 4, which is coming to Nintendo Switch. Pretty much nothing is known about it. The earlier Metroid Prime games were developed by Retro Studios, but it appears Bandai Namco is producing the new one for Nintendo Switch.

Larson won the Best Actress Oscar for her starring role in Room. Her next major role is Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in the upcoming superhero film Captain Marvel, which is due out in March 2019. She's set to appear again as Captain Marvel in April 2019's untitled Avengers 4.

As long as it's not as bad as Metroid The Other M

And there needs to be a correction on the article because every real Metroid fan knows there's a difference between Zero Suit Samus and actual Samus no varia suit no power suit no fusion suit and she's just like every other girl who could go to Fye or go to amazon.com and buy a spandex catsuit

The Metroid movie won't be able to afford the butt double. This ain't Marvel money.

@ClunkerSlim: I doubt that double is for her, it's far easier and cheaper to just put her in padded panties. The stand in they're looking for is likely a bikini shot. Brie is also supposed to be 5'7, taller than the ad asks for.

Why is this necessary? No video game to movie ever turned out even close to decent. I don't get why people think their favorite game will be the one that shakes that stigma.

@masterfrankgrimes: That doesn't mean they have to be. There was a long time when movies based on comics were awful, but once some talented filmmakers came up that actually respected them and executives took them seriously and didn't just view them as a cash grab, things turned around.

The same will happen with video games. We're now to the point where people who grew up with video games are making movies and in charge at movie studios. That will result in an increase in quality, which has already happened. While there may not have been one that's actually good yet, the laughably bad movies aren't really a thing, and you can tell studios are serious about making legitimate movies based on games.

Even if Assassin's Creed, Tomb Raider, and Warcraft weren't good movies, they weren't '90s era movies where some bought the liscense, slapped something together and hoped people would be dumb enough to pay to see, e.g. The Mario Bros movie.

@Welverin: Well said. Still think that Bioshock is the best candidate to make that leap. It couldn't have drawn the broad audience required to justify the budget Verbinski wanted (reportedly 200mil), especially not as an R-Rated film, which was what Verbinski was (rightly) adamant about. But times have changed.

@masterfrankgrimes: depending on your definition of "video game to movie" since it wasn't exactly of A real video game, but of a make believe MMO with a lot of other game stuff in it..

anyway.. i thought ready player one was pretty good.

rampage is also decent.

besides there is a LOT of movies not related to video games that completely suck too... so it's not just because they are based on video games, and i'd rather see a movie based on a game then more remakes, reboots and reboots of remakes i didn't care for originally.

@gamingdevil800: You'd think with so many games being "cinematic" and using photorealistic graphics, we'd have gotten one already. There are a fair number number of AAA games out there now that people accuse of being "movies" (The Last of Us and Uncharted seem to be the popular choices).

@Yomigaeru: Thats because most games steal from movies so a movie version just reveals how boring the idea is when you're not playing it.

@Bread_or_Decide: Pretty much this. We think a game's plot and story are so much better than they are because we're actually playing them. Take away the interactive and a lot of game stories stop measuring up.

One of the things that have always stuck with me about video games is how, as I was leaving the first Resident Evil movie, the guy next to me talked about how disappointed he was that there were no crest puzzles in the movie. This prompted the reaction of "Really? You wanted to watch a movie where people keep dashing back and forth to find the pieces of a Rooster Crest?"

@Yomigaeru: That's just fanboys being fanboys though cause a game has cinematic story telling. I know what you mean though I would love to see a Star Wars movie like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdgmH9Vv2-I
