Captain Marvel is getting even more marvelous. The film, which arrives just before the fourth Avengers movie, has found its male lead. Jude Law will join Brie Larson in Marvel's first female-centric superhero film.

The report comes from Variety, which says the actor is currently in negotiations to play the role of Dr. Walter Lawson, who comic book fans will recognize as Mar-Vell. In the comics, Mar-Vell was a member of the Kree alien race and a mentor of Carol Danvers (Larson), who becomes Captain Marvel in the movie. Mar-Vell also happens to be the original Captain Marvel. Given that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has already confirmed that a war between the Kree and the Skrulls--another alien race in the Marvel universe--will serve as part of the movie's inspiration, chances are Mar-Vell's alien lineage will be included in the film.

It's a good time to be Jude Law. Not only will Captain Marvel bring him into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it's not the only franchise he's joined in 2017. It was back in April that the actor was cast to play a young Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter franchise spin-off Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

In addition to Law and Larson, Captain Marvel will also star Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as the movie's villain. Samuel L. Jackson will return to reprise his MCU role as Nick Fury in the film, which will be set in the 1990s. Captain Marvel is in theaters on March 8, 2019.
