Now Playing: Brie Larson's Captain Marvel Suit Revealed - GS Universe News Update

Wednesday was a big day for those who have been impatiently awaiting the arrival of Marvel's next film, Captain Marvel. We got not just a look at Brie Larson in her superhero costume, but also a bunch of new information and photos from the upcoming movie. The next entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe--and the only one standing between us and the Avengers: Infinity War sequel--is due out next year. As you can see below, it features a two-eyed Nick Fury and the Skrulls, among other things. [Update: We've also now gotten the first Captain Marvel trailer, and you can see our trailer breakdown for more.]

The new photos from the film were shared by Entertainment Weekly, where you can see all 10 images. They mark the first we've seen from Larson's superhero debut, and they don't disappoint. Not only can she be seen in her costume as the titular Captain Marvel--in an image featuring far less Photoshopping than the cover version--but several other details are given away.

Most notably, Captain Marvel brings back Nick Fury back--but in a major change, he actually has both of his eyes. As the movie is set in the 1990s, a younger version of the director of SHIELD will be introduced, long before he starts wearing his signature eye patch. Perhaps the movie will actually show how he loses his eye?

Also seen in the photos are the introduction of the Skrull alien race. In one image, they are walking out of the ocean, led by Talos (Ben Mendelsohn). According to a caption from EW, the Skrulls are among the "nastiest and most notorious baddies" in all of Marvel comics. Take that, Thanos.

The last photo we want to highlight is the first look at Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch). As EW explains it, Maria is one of Carol Danvers' oldest friends and a fellow Air Force pilot, who flies under the call sign Photon. She's also a single mother to a young daughter, which is where things get interesting. In the comics, Maria's daughter is Monica, who ends up with superpowers and grows up to become an Avenger.

Monica has been known as Photon, but also Captain Marvel for a time. She's currently known as Spectrum. As Marvel plots out phase four of the MCU, it will be interesting to see if the introduction of Maria opens the door for Monica to become a big part of the franchise's future.

You can see the rest of the photos over at Entertainment Weekly. Captain Marvel is in theaters on March 8, 2019.

I have absolute no interest for this movie. Seems to be just some kind of discount Wonder woman. Wonder Woman was great as movie, Marvel just trying to catch up on their representation, seemingly forgetting quality inbetween.

I’m actually more excited for the future DC movies coming out than the Marvel ones.

@badboyfx86: Ive favored Marvel lately. Their movies are great. But I can see DC putting out some great, maybe better, content too. Shazam looks like it may start that trend along with WW 84

@pongman75: With James Wan directing Aquaman I’m curious to see how it turns out. It seems the Avengers game is gonna be MMO and I don’t like those kind of games, hopefully we find out more info before the year ends.

thiese comic book costumes DO NOT and never have look good in live action movies/series majority of the time it just look stupid, no exceptions here either. same for animes and such I wish it would all stop but it won't and it will contunies to look stupid for years to come

Be side the finger snap ended everyone basically... how is any more movies possible movie magic in progress!

@tsunami2311:dude do your research first before getting so mad. I see you copy paste the same content on multiple marvel-related posts. Really have a bone to grind huh?

As for the costume, the first 2 waves of Marvel movies don't look that great but compared to the standard out there, they weren't horrendous either. Since Doctor Strange though, Marvel has improved significantly on the look department and if you don't think Infinity War looks good then we'll just have to agree to disagree.

As for the snap, lol as the smart people here pointed out, the movie is set way before the current timeline.

Cheer up a little mate.

What are the odds on MCU characters that have been Skrulls the entire time?

Avatar image for Franzkill

@lionheartssj1: It would be too vague for the general audience. You have to remember that coming off a film crossing 2 billions worldwide it wasn't just us comic book/MCU geeks that watched this. Even at this stage of movies I think doing a move like that would throw people off a little. Still interesting though

Avatar image for spacemanspiff94

@lionheartssj1: I think they could literally be anyone my top two are Cap and M'baku. Cap because you need at least one major character to be a Skrull and it's kind of a cool idea that the Skrulls were intentionally behind the division of the Avengers (maybe Ross too). And M'baku because it makes sense that they would want someone in Wakanda to keep tabs but also be in a position to create instability if need be.

Avatar image for Bread_or_Decide
Bread_or_Decide

@spacemanspiff94: That would ruin years of excellent cap character building.

Avatar image for spacemanspiff94
spacemanspiff94

@Bread_or_Decide: Cap is hands down my favorite. So I would prefer that they didn't. But I think it makes sense for what they have right now. Although now that I'm thinking about it I'm pretty sure the Skrulls can't emulate the powers of whoever they're shapeshifting as. So unless it's super recent Cap is out.

Avatar image for HarlemVIP

@spacemanspiff94: I'm not too familiar with the Skrulls, but I really did NOT like what those directors did with Infinity War (screwing up nearly the entire story and shaping it in their own image ala Micheal Bay). But from what I've gathered about them, and if you do the math on what the Avengers' actors have been saying for years now, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Stark was a Skrull going back to Civil War, simply because RDJ was talking about giving up his role for years now. And it would also make sense considering how these two director brother, who I can't stand at this point, actually SAID they don't wanna see the actual comic story on screen because they already know the outcome (paraphrasing)....which pretty much explains why Planet Hulk / World War Hulk is officially impossible now.

Avatar image for vfighter

@HarlemVIP: Just wait...you just compared the Russo brothers to Bay?!? Lay off the drugs kiddo, they'll get you ever time.

Avatar image for HarlemVIP

@vfighter: The drugs are clearly being done on YOUR side. I'm nowhere near a fanboy. There are EXTREEEEEMELY deep and beautiful freaking stories that these two brothers completely took a huge crap on just because they wanted to EXACTLY what Micheal Bay does with every classic he touches....take a historic name and shape everything about it in HIS / THEIR own image. Their tired ass excuse was that they already knew the outcome of the comic stories, so they didn't want to see an exact copy. Well, since they did just that, you could kiss anything that even REMOTELY resembles World War Hulk / Planet Hulk goodbye, because they pissed on it in the last Thor movie and turned it into a freaking 2 to 3 minute comedy spot. If you've never read either Planet Hulk or World War Hulk, just don't even TRY to respond. Because that story alone would completely DESTROY anything the Avengers have put out to date since Infinity War was a damn watered down JOKE in comparison to the comic.

Had they brought either Hulk story to the big screen and did an exact carbon copy of the comic, there would not have been a close comparison for a really REALLY long time to come when it comes to action films or story telling. All you have to do is read the books to know that. But no...that entire storyline got defecated on in 2 to 3 freaking tired comedic minutes....alllll because they want THEIR IDEAS to be front and center.

So please....before you talk about drug use....go read these stories and pay attention to what you're watching before you try to have something slick to say.

I'm kind of in shock at how hardcore comic fans didn't flip out at the huge butt ramming that was done in Infinity War. And now they're saying that boring ass Captain Marvel, of all people, will be the most powerful MCU character they've covered to date. If THAT'S not some Micheal bay sh*t, considering Thanos has the freaking Infinity Guantlet, which makes him a freaking GOD, then comic fans really need to sit their collective asses down the next time somebody comes out with a crappy comic movie.

@HarlemVIP: I don't usually sign in to this troll pitfor anything. But your inaccuracies have made me step out of the shadows as the hero this comment section needs.

Ahem: Taika Waititi directed Thor: Ragnorok. Kevin Feige (the true mastermind, and commander of the MCU, it's plot trajectory and it's overall tone) produced. With what would appear to be absolutely no input (or so little that it hasn't ever been so much as hinted at) from Anthony & Joe Russo, who are responsible for Infinity War and 2 more of the strongest and darkest films in the franchise.

The Planet Hulk/WWH movie you're so hung up on was messed up by Universal YEEEEEEEARS ago, when they refused to allow Marvel to include the character in any movies in anything other than a supporting capacity, unless they were given creative control. That creative control led to one utterly terrible Hulk film and one decidedly meh Hulk film. Is that really the level of quality you want for the character? Ragnorok and the Avengers movies are the compromise and to me are unquestionably the better option.

If you're gonna take a shot, remember to shoot in the right direction.

I for one am pretty excited to see what comes of Captain Marvel. Could be great. Could be balls, just like Ant-Man 2. We'll see.

@jonorbz409: Okay a couple things I need to poke at here.....

1. Nothing is gonna calm down my rage at what was presented with Infinity War and Ragnorok....even though nobody cares about MY rage, so that part is not important, I'm just putting it out there. Also, I'm not familiar with ANYTHING with Thor in the comics, so his movies are taken at face value for me. I'm pretty much learning about certain stories backwardly.

2. I had absolutely no idea that a Planet Hulk / World War Hulk movie was EVER in the works. This is news to me. But if they screwed up any attempts at it back then, I guess I'm grateful for that. And I also had no idea who directed the second Thor movie. I was under the assumption that it was those two douche bag brothers. Once again, news to me. But the rage comes from the fact that I VERY RECENTLY (like last month) read the entire Planet Hulk novel...haven't gotten to World War Hulk yet. From what I've seen talked about on Youtube, pales in comparison to the actual full story. So to see them stick a thumb in my eye with that freaking CAMEO really pissed me off. But it didn't start there. I had a really bad feeling they were gonna try something funny after Hulk flew away in that jet in the previous movie...I just didn't know WHAT they were pulling. When I saw the commercial part of me got excited...then I saw the movie....ugh! My anger is more for crapping on the Hulk's story, not the Thor movie. Like I said, I don't know ANYTHING about Thor.

3. I don't know anything about Captain Marvel either, but from what I've seen on YouTube (Comicstorian & ComicsExplained), SHE SUCKS WHALE NIPPLES!! But the movie might be good, only because i know nothing about her outside of the boring stories on YouTube. I refuse to give any time to Ant Man...the commercials alone turn me off.

@jonorbz409: dude, thank you. The more I read his post, the more dumbstruck I got about how wrong it was about nearly every single point it was trying to make. Thanks for correcting the myriad of mistakes, because I dont think I would've been nearly as polite.

Although I disagree with AM2, I thought it was good for his series, although not when taken into the MCU as a whole.
