Evans' off.

Captain America star Chris Evans has been hinting that he will be leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe for some time now, and it seems that the day is almost here. With Avengers: Infinity War hitting theaters next month, Evans has confirmed that next year's currently untitled Avengers 4 will be his final Marvel movie.

The news comes via a profile on Evans in the New York Times. The article states that Infinity War and Avengers 4 were the final two movies left on his Marvel contract and that he has no further plans to continue playing Captain America. "You want to get off the train before they push you off," Evans is quoted as saying.

Of course, this isn't the first time that the actor has spoke about leaving the Marvel universe. Last June, he revealed that his contract was actually up after Infinity War, but he signed on for one more movie. "[Marvel] wanted to make the third and fourth Avengers films as a two-parter," he said. "They had so many other characters to fit in--Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant Man--and couldn't get them all into one movie. [I agreed] because it made sense. It's going to wrap everything up."

Back in In 2014, Evans stated that he was hoping to move from acting into directing. "I've known for a while I wanted to direct. But [the time] never really opens up. There's another movie to do, there's another acting job," he said. "I can't see myself pursuing acting strictly outside of what I'm contractually obligated to do."

There has been much speculation that Infinity War and its sequel will see the death of at least one key member of the MCU. What this means for Captain American is unknown, as both Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) have also spoken about their eventual departures from the series.

Earlier this month, Marvel boss Kevin Feige spoke about the possibility of a major Marvel hero dying. While Feige didn't give any details away, he did confirm that any death would be final for that character. "People always will jump to that," he said. "That's not necessarily what we're talking about. I mean, I could always list off the characters that we've killed in our movies that haven't come back, but the big ones, which I know they're looking at? I would just say, yes. People need to be careful what they wish for."

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on April 27. It also stars Chadwick Boseman, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Pratt, Benedict Cumberbatch, Josh Brolin, Tom Holland, and pretty up every other major actor from the last decade of Marvel movies.
