Captain America: Civil War Could Make $200 Million Before US Release - Report

Marvel's new superhero action movie blasts off to $14.9 million in limited, international debut; big numbers expected for US premiere.

Captain America: Civil War opened in 15 foreign markets on Wednesday, bringing in $14.9 million between them, according to a box office numbers posted today. This is slightly behind the initial opening for last year's Avengers: Age of Ultron, according to Deadline.

In France, the superhero faceoff movie made $2.4 million to become the biggest opening of any movie in the country this year. The filmed pulled in $1.5 million in the Philippines, $1.4 million in Taiwan, and $1.1 million in Hong Kong. Head to Deadline for a full breakdown of Civil War's international opening.

The movie comes to Germany, Australia, Brazil, Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands, Portugal, Malaysia, Singapore, Panama, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Colombia today. It is scheduled to debut in the US on May 6.

Deadline also reports that Civil War could make around $200 million internationally before it debuts stateside. For comparison, this figure would place it behind Age of Ultron but ahead of Iron Man 3.

Unlike the previous Captain America films, Civil War features many of the high profile actors and characters from the Avengers movies, theoretically increasing its appeal.
