Capcom 'saddened' by Splosion Man flap
Mobile division unaware of Twisted Pixel's previous pitch to parent company, hopes to "rebuild the trust" of gaming community.
Earlier this week, a developer dispute ignited as members of Twisted Pixel Games took umbrage at the recently released Capcom Mobile title MaXplosion, which they thought bore an uncanny resemblance to their own Splosion Man. Adding fuel to the fire was the revelation from Twisted Pixel CEO Mike Wilford that the studio had originally pitched Splosion Man to Capcom, only to have the publisher pass on it.
Capcom Mobile today responded to the situation, providing the following statement to GameSpot:
"While Twisted Pixel did have discussions with our console game team about publishing Splosion Man on game consoles, Capcom Mobile is a different division of Capcom with separate offices and as such, had no prior knowledge of any meetings between the console game team and Twisted Pixel. MaXplosion was developed independently by Capcom Mobile. Nonetheless, we are saddened by this situation and hope to rebuild the trust of our fans and friends in the gaming community."
As of press time, MaXplosion was still available on iTunes, and Capcom Mobile has not responded to requests for comment on whether it would be pulled or altered in any way.
