Capcom: Resident Evil 6 successful 'to some degree'

Publisher says record setting shipments of new action game make it somewhat successful; "too early" to make judgement regarding critical response.

Resident Evil 6 did not win praise across the board at launch last month, but the game shipped a Capcom record 4.5 million copies initially. This equals success to "some degree," according to comments from the publisher recently during a question and answer session.

No Caption Provided

"Resident Evil 6 continues to generate repeat sales in Japan and overseas. Furthermore, initial shipments set a new record for a Capcom title. So this game has been successful to some degree," reads a line from the response.

Regarding the game's critical response, Capcom isn't yet ready to make a judgement.

"We therefore believe it is too early to reach a conclusion about how users view this game. We always listen carefully to the feedback from users and use this information when developing game," the statement reads.

How about another RE outbreak?

Back then online were not as good imagine a file 3 on PS3 it will surely bring RE back on its "own" feet and roots!

Not to mention it's a blast to play both single player and 4 player co-op with full on survival horror gameplay, remember that 4 item slots?

just go back to the RE4 style of game. It was a good mix of old and new, with a good difficulty level (professional) and nice changes of pace sections (although the horror sections like the regenerating plaga dudes is preferred). Don't need over the top nonsensical action with zombies with machineguns & tons of QTE/ bombastic scenematics. Might as well play COD or any shooter then.

Hope dead space doesn't go the action route as well, but it looks like it with dead space 3 :(

@beuneus12 I really dug RE 4 but its Professional level just made it hard Krauser and Saddler battles. The Professional level of RE 5 was nasty, one hit and you have like 3 seconds to be rescued or you die miserably...

@franzito well if you had a capable coop buddy re5 pretty easy, also didn't like the fact they introduced unlimited ammo option. so many online people with all the good guns unlocked, making it a breeze (offline sucks, cause retarded AI).

Try what i did on re4, first play-through on professional, finish the game with no saves or continues (basically 0 deaths). Very enjoyable challenge, somewhat similar to death space2 hardcore mode

This game has a lot of potential. Leon's campaign was the best...Chris' was pretty terrible. I couldn't wait to finish it...it had me and my brother so worn out and frustrated from the human like enemies that we didn't want to play Jake's campaign.

I hope RE7 is better, but I think this is a great direction for the series. Sure it's with it's flaws (camera system is the biggest & monsters still attacking you during cut scenes) but it's a great step in the right direction.

@SsjZero Jake's campaing could be described as "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" style but Chris's is hard to swallow. It's frustrating playing with Piers, the guy lacks a lot...

They don't have to drop multiplayer to please me but they should have a seperate single player campaign which should be scary. The gamplay still needs a lot of work. Its not smooth or fluid enough to be a real action game. I'd rather they went back to RE4 gameplay with both you and the enemies being slower instead of this current "hybrid" mess.

Gamers have a long history of not being intelligent consumers. People mostly buy games based on name alone. Poor and mixed reception and the game ships 4.5 million. It's sad, especially for all the great new IPs out there.

Absolutely loving this game so far. I think having multiple campaigns, each a little different than the others was a great idea. Leon's was very good storywise, but I've really been enjoying the gameplay in Chris and Jake's campaigns the most. It's definitely been very action oriented, but it's well done.

I wouldn't mind RE becoming more actiony if A.) they did a superior job of it and B.) if there weren't already like 10 action games coming out every month.

@JohnMark320 Funny, I haven't finished yet, but I've actually found Chris and Jake's campaigns to both be superior to Leon's overall. Not my favorite entry in the series, but still pretty great overall.

Leon's campaing is nostalgia with action, fun twists. Chris's is military focused but impolished. Jake's is action movie from head to toe. And Ada's, oh my, Ada's is just to cool for school!

@abnergoinbig @JohnMark320 I only played RE5 a month or so ago, so it was kind of natural for me to start with Chris' story. I'd read a lot of comments about that part being horrible, boring, etc., and people not liking much of the stuff in the Chinese setting. So, yeah, I was pretty surprised by how much I ended up liking it too.

@i-b-tex Chris and Jake's campaigns weren't terrible, but Leon's campaign had those magic moments that brought me back to what I loved about RE growing up. Shame since Chris is my favorite character...

@JohnMark320 True, there were definitely some great moments in Leon's campaign, and I did enjoy the return of the zombies and the whole trek through the burning city for that matter. It was really reminiscent of RE2 and 3.

At this point in time the Resident Evil series sits at that transition of finding a new crowd that likes the gameplay type and losing those that don't like the direction it is going. So you get the people that hate it (liked the old RE) and the people that don't mind it (those that never liked RE and finally decided to play it).

Hopefully the transition works out for them as they go from one type of fan to the next.

Opinions on RE 6 are all over the place. From the widows of the old timey mess that used tank controls, to those who enjoy the action oriented direction the series has taken. IMO it was a pretty damn good game, provided players overlooked some polish issues and some of its minor design flaws. The gunplay and sheer amount of content made up for that.

@DarthLod Reading the reviews, I had expected a lot of QTEs during the cutscenes, like in RE5, but there really weren't that many at all. As far as shaking the control stick to get a zombie away, or the timed button pressing for the access panels, it didn't feel like they detracted from playing the game. I never felt like I was watching an interactive movie, as some have described the game.

@DarthLod Because a game that's QTE intensive is automatically bad, right? God of War, RE 5, and Shenmue would like to have a word with you. Gimme a break.

@vader501st RE5 and GOW hardly had any QTE's compared to RE6 and they WAY they put them in the game utterly ruined it. QTE's just don't belong in the first place. Sick of them.

Its not bad that they have a QTE system its how it was implemented those games you listed have done them better than RE6. This game was a mess but I do believe the game doesn't deserve a 4.5 only a 6 and no higher. Also the campaigns were very dissapointing they could have been better if they kept at one idea instead trying multiple ones. @vader501st @DarthLod

@DarthLod well seeing how there was a mild annoyance to them in RE4, and then again to slightly more in RE5, and now they're at way more here at RE6. I think Capcom will hear these complaints and will make RE7 with double the QTEs (almost like Asura's Wrath).

There idea of better sequels is holding back on what people liked about the previous entry and building upon what they didn't like.
