You can’t keep a good zombie down, and like the undead, Capcom’s Resident Evil series just won’t die off. After days of rumors, Capcom officially announced today that it is developing a sequel to Resident Evil Outbreak.

Capcom released the original Resident Evil in 1996, and the series has helped put the survival horror genre on the map. Like its predecessor, Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 will be exclusive to the PlayStation 2 and is slated to spook store shelves this winter. The new game casts players as one of eight average citizens of Raccoon City who are trying to contain a plague that’s been turning everyone into the living dead. One level features a zombie zoo, where elephants and other creatures have gotten an undead makeover. (Remember, don’t feed the animals...brains.)

While Outbreak File #2 will still be playable solo, zombie hunters can also venture into the online world, where they can hook up with three other players for co-op missions. In addition, the game will also support the PS2’s hard drive. GameSpot will have more details on this game as they become available.
