Capcom has released further details on the specific changes and enhancements being planned for Genma Onimusha for the Microsoft Xbox. The game is an updated version of Onimusha Warlords for the PlayStation 2, which has sold more than 2 million copies worldwide to date. Genma Onimusha will include visual, audio, and gameplay enhancements and will be able to show more characters onscreen at once. Additionally, all-new areas, costumes, and cutscenes will be included in the game. In the audio department, the game will include Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.

In terms of gameplay, a variety of subtle changes are planned. The Xbox version will feature a burst attack, which can be used to perform a charged-up super attack on opponents. Also, as reported previously, the player will now have to compete with the demons to possess freed souls. According to Capcom, this new feature will require quicker reflexes and will add more strategy to the gameplay. Enemies become more powerful as they are successful in stealing souls from Samanosuke. If Samanosuke is successful in defeating these enemies, they will drop more souls than a regular enemy.

"As part of our multiplatform strategy, Capcom is very excited to have several products in development for Xbox," said Robert Lindsey, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Capcom Entertainment. "As our first product, Genma Onimusha takes advantage of the power of the system by delivering more action at one time and supporting 5.1 Dolby surround technology. Our research and development team has outdone themselves by offering an entirely unique and incredibly detailed experience to the massively successful Onimusha storyline."

"As one of the premier software developers in the industry, we couldn't be more pleased to have Capcom creating games for Xbox," said J. Allard, general manager for the Xbox platform. "We are working very closely with Capcom's development team to ensure they have all the tools to deliver hit products that will utilize the power of our system. We look forward to having a long and prosperous relationship with Capcom."

Genma Onimusha is currently scheduled for release on the Xbox in early 2002.
