Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Will Not Have Loot Boxes

"There continues to be misinformed and incorrect info being pushed about Modern Warfare."

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's release on October 25 is coming up soon, and now one of the developers has clarified the game's stance on loot boxes. In short, there are none.

Infinity Ward's Joel Emslie said on Reddit that the studio is "definitely not working on any kind of supply drop or loot box system." He added that Modern Warfare's "functional" content, which impacts gameplay, is unlocked through gameplay, not by paying for it.

More details about how Modern Warfare handles this system will be shared this week, he said.

Emslie's comments came in response to renewed discussion about whether or not Modern Warfare would feature supply drops or loot boxes like in previous Call of Duty games. "Sigh. There continues to be misinformed and incorrect info being pushed about Modern Warfare," he said.

In 2017's Call of Duty: WWII, from developer Sledgehammer, loot boxes literally rained down from the sky in the game's social space.

While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare may not have loot boxes, the game may still feature the Call of Duty Points virtual currency from previous games. If it's implemented similarly to previous titles, players will be able to buy these Points with real money and spend them on cosmetic items like weapon skins and emotes that do not impact gameplay.

Loot boxes have created a lot of controversy, and governments around the world are examining the business practice to determine if they will take legal action. In August, it was announced that new games or game updates that add loot boxes on Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony platforms will be required to disclose the rarity rates of items.

Knowing their wily Black Ops 4 micro transaction tactic, as soon as the reviews will be in, they'll start shoving the "surprise mechanics" after every (major) update and no amount of outcry or controversy will change it, because clearly there's a lot of people who willingly give their cash away for something as trivial as a red dot sight.

"the game may still feature the Call of Duty Points virtual currency"

"May..?" You get a bounch of thosse points in one of the editions of the game. The game WILL feature COD points...

Also, didnt Treyarch promise that BOPS4 wouldnt have lootboxes, only for lootboxes to be included post-launch..?

Activision is just like EA, their word aint worth a thing...

Pretty sure everyone from activision should be quiet now. Noone cares about MW getting loot boxes in 6 months, or 6 weeks, and if MTX was enough to offend those people into cancelling their pre order, the shite with Blizzard will assuredly keep it that way.

"There continues to be misinformed and incorrect info being pushed about Modern Warfare."

Which roughly translates to - "Shit, we got caught. Better backtrack the **** out of those loot boxes and shit so we don't tank the hell out of this game before it even releases! We can always add loot boxes AFTER the game releases anyway. Those idiots will never know what hit'em!"

Im all for cosmetic loot boxes. It gives the graphic teams work even after The main game is done wich is good for the studio, and it doesnt affect me in The slightest since... I think ive spent about 10$ in total The last ten years on cosmetic items.

@ultralof: Yah totally agree. There's no problems for cosmetic loot boxes, or just cosmetics in general. If people want to trick out their character in a game (with cool / different / funny new costumes), more power to them.

Doesn't affect gameplay.

@ultralof: I'm ok with that too. Devs only need to be clear and sincere about the whole thing, it's for the better in any way.

Advanced Warfare had a good loot system. Progression awards you some perks, Prestige resets you but lets you choose perk to keep. I loved that game when it came out, thou i understand I'm in the minority.

the studio should rephrase that to "mw will not have lootboxes at launch", or "mw will not have lootboxes, until activision forces them"...

it's such a disgrace for the community to be talking about this, but this is what we have evolved into, "expect the worst"...

on another note there is only one way to prove the skeptics wrong, by not implementing such shady systems, which until now have been implemented without a second thought...

They can be included later, but I'm a lot more concerned about micropayments, time savers and all that crap, it's as bad as loot boxes. The fact that there is at all any kind of ream money implementation is cancer.

@ganondorf77: That's what they did with Crash Team Racing. No pay to win microtxns at launch, got good reviews. After the reviews came in, they inserted them in.

Whenever activision says "No microtransactions or loot boxes" it just means "No microtransactions or loot boxes, YET"

Give it a month after it launches. Once reviews go out and such they'll be snuck in as usual.

If you trust activision to not do this kind of garbage with call of duty. Your delusional.

I wouldn’t care if it did have loot boxes. No loot boxes have ever changed my gaming experience. I simply don’t buy the boxes and just go about my day.

@justthetip: If you don't care about 100% completion of any game... loot boxes has changed the design of the game, you would be playing a completely different game without them. It's a lot different not having them in the first place than ignoring them. Ignoring them also has the potential to get worse with time, you give developers new chances to go a step further, to try to cross another line every new product that is released. You keep ignoring everything and eventually you will get loot boxes to full maps or "insert coin to continue" in your own home on full priced aaa games every 5 MP plays or every SP map in less than 10 years.

@ganondorf77: Let them do whatever they want. If it does go the way that you’re saying it will, that’s fine by me. I can quit gaming and go do plenty of other things. I enjoy gaming, but there are so many other/better things to do in life.

@tbird7586: This is what Killed BLOPS 3 for me and my friends adding loot boxes in after the game had been out for so long felt like shady business practices, especially when they started adding weapons to them.
