The latest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta closes today, but there's still another chance for people to jump in before release. The next beta kicks off later this week, with Xbox One and PC players getting their first shot. Those two platforms have an early access period for pre-orders on September 19 at 10 AM Pacific until September 20--this period is an open beta for PS4. After that, the beta opens up for everyone on all three platforms.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will release October 25 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The original Modern Warfare was a trendsetter for the industry and helped make Call of Duty a massive annual success, and this year's installment serves as a reboot for the classic. It promises a deeper and grittier look at the realities of combat in current-day, with a new original story, along with some other significant changes.

If you're itching to get your hands on the game, you'll have your chance soon enough as two beta tests are coming up this month. The first beta session will kick off September 12-16 on PS4. The first two days, September 12 and 13, are exclusive to players who pre-ordered Modern Warfare on PS4. The rest of the beta period (starting September 14) is free for everyone on PS4. The second beta test will be September 19-23. The first two days, September 19 and 20, are open to those who pre-ordered on Xbox One and PC, as well as anyone on PS4 (no pre-order required). Starting September 21, the rest of the second beta period will be available to all players.

PS4 Exclusive Beta Dates

  • September 12-23 (Early Access, PS4)
  • September 14-16 (Open beta, PS4)

Cross-Play Beta Dates

  • September 19-20 (Early access, PC and Xbox One; open beta, PS4)
  • September 21-23 (Open beta, PS4, Xbox One, and PC)

Activision gave fans a closer look at the game's signature multiplayer gameplay in a livestream on August 1. The reboot includes a new Gunfight mode, which consists of quick two-on-two matches; a Ground War team battle royale mode that will support more than 100 players; a Special Ops mode with strategic co-op missions; and more. Be sure to check out our recent coverage of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for more details on all the new additions and improvements.

Of course, Call of Duty is definitively a blockbuster, and it comes with several special editions, including a new Dark edition that leaked earlier this summer and is now officially live and available to pre-order exclusively at GameStop. There are also quite a few pre-order bonuses available, so read on for more details on everything the game comes with.

Check out all of your retail options below and stay frosty.

Pre-ordering any version will also immediately unlock the classic version of Captain Price in Blackout, Black Ops 4's battle royale mode, playable on PS4 and on other platforms.
