Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is set to add some big new features to its competitive multiplayer, including one feature that hasn't been seen in the Call of Duty series since the other Modern Warfare 2 back in 2009.

Revealed as part of the Call of Duty Next presentation, Modern Warfare 2 will see the return of third-person multiplayer playlists. According to Activision, these will allow for "a new tactical way to play multiplayer." In practice, that likely means it being easier to spot enemies sneaking up behind you at the cost of immediate and dead-accurate shots.

Ricochet anti-cheat tech will be included in Modern Warfare 2 at launch (and in Warzone 2.0), and in keeping with a more seamless transition between development teams, Modern Warfare 2 will also feature the dolphin dive. It's primarily seen in Treyarch's games, giving players a better way to quickly shift to prone while still posing a threat.

Speaking of posing a threat, you'll still be dangerous when your boots aren't on the ground. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will feature vehicular gameplay, letting you lean out of a vehicle or mantle onto the roof as you blast away at those outside. It should make explosives and rockets even more crucial.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 releases October 28 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game's first beta kicks off on September 16 for PlayStation preorder players.
