Call of Duty: Ghosts has claimed the third-biggest opening week of 2013 in the UK, failing to shift more copies than Grand Theft Auto V and FIFA 14.

The latest Call of Duty, which took top place in the UK charts, also sold more copies on PS4 than Wii U, despite the PlayStation 4 not being released in Europe until November 29. Three percent of the game's sales were on PS4, reported sales tracker GfK Chart-Track.

The Xbox 360 claimed 63 percent of sales, with 34 percent going to PlayStation 3. Combined, the Wii U and physical PC sales accounted for less than one percent of the game's total sales.

The PlayStation 4 version of Call of Duty: Ghosts shifted enough copies to outsell the PlayStation 3 versions of Assassin's Creed III and Battlefield 4, Chart-Track adds.

Elsewhere in the charts, Battlefield 4 was in second place, with Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag finishing third. Professor Layton and the Azaran Legacy entered in 13th.

Last week. Activision reported that it has sold $1 billion worth of Call of Duty: Ghosts copies to retailers worldwide, but is yet to divulge how many copies have actually been purchased by consumers.
