Call of Duty: Ghosts has Kinect voice commands

Activision says updated version of sensor will make gameplay better in latest shooter; current-gen version will be "superb experience."

Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Ghosts will feature Kinect-enabled voice commands, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg has confirmed with VentureBeat.

The executive explained that the updates Microsoft has made to the Kinect 2.0 sensor will lead to a level of "responsiveness and detail" that was not possible before.

Hirshberg said more information about Kinect integration for Call of Duty: Ghosts will be revealed at a later date, and made clear that Infinity Ward believes the technology will better the game.

"We've always made sure that we don't just use new technology for novelty's sake," Hirshberg said. "We always make sure that it makes the gameplay better. In this case, we think it will."

Also in the interview, Hirshberg commented on the cross-generational nature of Call of Duty: Ghosts. He said gamers who pick up the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions will enjoy a "superb experience" that will include many of the gameplay ideas, including dynamic maps and character customization, promised for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions.

To achieve this vision, Hirshberg said it was decided early on that Call of Duty: Ghosts for current-generation platforms would be developed alongside the next-generation versions at Infinity Ward instead of being ported by an outside studio.

Avatar image for bloody_roar_fan

Ahaha Price actually looks better than the other guy in ghosts!!!

The guy from ghosts looks like an ARMA 2 character !

This is ridiculous, is just Activision trying to make us look like fools by saying how much better the graphics are, and how much work they have put in to it wen actually its all photos compacted together in a LEGO polygon video game!

Avatar image for Gravity_Slave

I hope its optional...I seriously don't want to sit there shouting repetitive commands.

So instead of looking at a piece of waist height cover and pressing a button, I can say 'squad, move there'?

Wow that's so awesome 10/10 microsoft I can't wait.

I don't plan on even touching Ghosts but the fact is that Kinect's voice commands are pretty impressive, even on the otherwise crappy current-gen Kinect.

Navigating the Xbox dashboard with voice commands works almost flawlessly, and Skyrim's voice commands work very well and add an additional layer of depth to the game.

There are probably issues, though, with people's voices having so much variety, and Kinect having a tough time recognizing, for example, a voice with a strong accent.

Kinect doesn't have any trouble recognizing my voice, but I'm the exact demographic that the thing is designed to work for :P

really that sounds interesting ohh watch and see xbox makes codG much better with voice command just think of it your playing on the story mode and you find your self being shot at so you call out over me on the right and the ppl in the game dose it that would be sick!!!

Avatar image for MN121MN

Rather than adding "feature" which might only change the gameplay for a few, how about changing the gameplay itself....

Avatar image for monowasp

Yes that "new" graphics engine was really neat (smell the irony).

Avatar image for MatrixGamer78

and the real Ghost is Eric.

@MatrixGamer78 Eric Carr?

Avatar image for oOhedzOo

PiLfIuS! is a free PC software that can assigns any keyboard key to voice commands. You can try it on your COD now.

Avatar image for Dangerous231

@oOhedzOo old cod games wasnt built to use voice command so how could you use it on the pc now ?? how you used it yet ?

Avatar image for SmallSatsuma

This will only be good if it works perfectly. In a fast paced game I don't want to have to repeat a voice command because the Xbox misunderstood it.

Avatar image for rulo90

wow now it wont just be terrible it will be fucked up in gaming.

but hey who knows.. hack the freaking game and probably.. new command " dark hole this fucking map" wooosh game over... WIN.

@lilcurt1978 @Hey_Jay Lol, I think people need to hear this more often: you are not everybody. I don't know if it would decrease people ranting like they spoke for everybody, which they can't since they *are not* everybody, but it's at least true.

Avatar image for Hurvl

"We've always made sure that we don't just use new technology for novelty's sake," Hirshberg said. "We always make sure that it makes the gameplay better. In this case, we think it will." Oh, so in this particular case you think it will make the gameplay better. As if you actually needed to point out that it "in this case" makes the gameplay better, since you never mention when something you've worked on *doesn't* make the gameplay better.

Avatar image for berzerk0912

and one of the voice commands will be "CAMP".

Avatar image for buffaloblitz85

Option 1: Imagine the setting--- Explosions going off everywhere bullets whizzing by you. All of a sudden 'Deploy Stealth Chopper'---Error----'Deploy Stealth Chopper'---Error---- 'Deploy S...' ---Dead---

Option 2: Press down on the D-pad ---Stealth Chopper Deployed---

Sometimes the simplest things are the best things

Aside from not using a new engine, I think that would be cool as hell to shout commands to your dog.

Avatar image for volc-123

lol, activision pls. We are tired of your shit, give us a new engine, with a sense of realism, then we'll consider buying it :)

Avatar image for buffaloblitz85

@volc-123 destructible environments? Oh no sorry.

Avatar image for Hey_Jay

Why is it so difficult to understand that nobody cares about voice commands?

Avatar image for Dirk_McHardpeck

Next gen consoles haven't even been released yet and they're already plugging CoD for it? Good to know that the more things change the more they stay the same. It's like the console companies are competing with Hollywood to see who will be the first to completely run out of new ideas.

Avatar image for Mr_Big_Boss

@Dirk_McHardpeck Hollywood ran out of ideas a long time ago.

Avatar image for brusto

Tom Clancy's End War had cool voice commands. I remember I played the entire campaign using the controller only to change the view over the battlefield. They could do something cool with voice commands in CoD, like, "Xbox, type in chat 'yo mama is fat, n00b'".

Avatar image for Ducez_III

Can I command my dog to play dead, so it doesn't get shot or killed in an explosion?

Avatar image for leandrro

"xbox, turn on aim-assist on stupid joysticks"

Avatar image for BoozerX

I really hope is not mandatory. Think of all the noise you are gonna make. Good intentions, bad idea
