Now Playing: Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Battle Royale And Zombies Revealed - GameSpot Daily

After much teasing and speculation, Activision finally pulled back the curtain on this year's highly anticipated Call of Duty game, Black Ops 4. Like previous entries in the series, Black Ops 4 includes a variety of different game modes, such as the ever-popular Zombies, but this year's installment will also feature its own take on the battle royale genre.

Dubbed Blackout, the new battle royale-style mode pits players against each other in a fight to be the last one standing. On the official Call of Duty website, Activision revealed that Blackout will be playable solo or in teams, just as Fortnite and PUBG. Where it differs from other battle royale games, however, is that it draws heavily on previous Black Ops titles. Developer Treyarch says it wanted to create a battle royale mode "the Black Ops way," and to that end, it has incorporated elements from the entire series into the mode.

According to Treyarch, the map in Blackout is the biggest one the developer has ever created. Some of its locations are old maps taken directly from past entries, and players can use weapons and items from every previous Black Ops game, including the RC car. The map also features land, air, and sea vehicles, and players can play as Hudson, Reznov, Mason, and other characters from the series. However, Treyarch says it is still undecided on the number of players Blackout will support.

Activision announced a ton of new details about Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 during this week's special reveal event. Along with Blackout, the publisher talked a lot about the new Zombies campaign, which is set across three unique maps at launch and places a stronger emphasis on mystery. Activision also revealed that Black Ops 4 won't have a traditional single-player campaign; rather, the game will feature solo missions that focus on each of its Specialist characters.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 12--nearly a month earlier than Call of Duty games typically launch. The PC version will be available exclusively via Blizzard's service. Activision will hold a beta for Black Ops 4 ahead of its launch later this year, although exact details on that will be announced at a later date.

**** they sure talk it up well with that video. They're trying to do something heaps hectic, I reckon it'll either be great or flop super hard.

I guess it's too much to ask for a traditional spec-ops game set in the 90's with a good story? I mean, no campaign shows you're not even trying to bring a fresh artistic experience, you're only interested about expedient cash-ins. Normally, there's a balancing act, but this time we can see right through it. Try harder. My money is going to more worthwhile pursuits. You guys can stuff Black Ops 4 where the sun don't shine.

Call of Duty Black Ops IV is nothing but pure greed by Treyarch and Activision. Treyarch screwed up big time on the 3 year cycle of making this game by not finishing the Single Player Campaign in a timely fashion. They spent two and half years worlking on the Single Player Campaign and decided to drop the Campaign because Activison decided to have the game come out in October instead of November which screw up the time schedule for finishing this game.

This is definitely a cash grab by Activision which is a disgrace to the Call of Duty name. Call of Duty Black Ops IV should not even have the Call of Duty name attached to it since is so different from all of the other Call of Duty games that came out before it. Shame on Treyarch and Activision for even trying to put this out for $60.00. They must think the public is really stupid to pay $60.00 for this game. Go watch Angry Joe YouTube Video to see how he feels about this cash grab. He makes a lot good points about not supporting or buying this game.

The only way left to play Battle Royale that will be exciting is playing it in real life...has anyone saw this?

Avatar image for ishsgames

Honestly when I saw gameplay of BO4, I looked at the title of the video game cuz I thought it was a BO3 video. Its literally the same crap over again. At least battlefield does a full skin overhaul, adds new weapons, and changes gun play a bit. CoD games literally one copy to the next with any new mechanics often stolen and copied from other successful games like fortnite's battle royale

Another Battle Royale Mode in a game? Whoda thunk?

Let's talk about Blops 4. I watched the trailer. They're just not moving to new ground here people. Nothing is happening in CoD land that hasn't happened before in some iteration. Time and time again we're getting the same 3 developers doing the same things over and over and trying to pretend something is new. It's not. The DLC for this game will be the re-re-release of some former maps that have been made over in HD and given a "new" covering of something to pretend it's worth your hard earned money.

You know what CoD needs? A rebranding and a new developer that can turn it into something equivalent of The Witcher 3 on steroids, with guns and vehicles and an open world where war matters and enemies can kill you if you venture too far off the beaten path and are not prepared for them. Those sentient Ai s that walk with you in so many other CoD games? Yeah, instant bad guys all of sudden forming a robot army to annihilate humans. They're developing crazy new tech that we have to combat with our M16s and AK47s and ceramic body armor until we can steal some of it and create our own versions XCom style. Then, we come to find out that the Terminator is helping us because the robots are a threat to their future and we......oh, never mind. LOL.

Still, that scenario is more original than what we've gotten so far.

"the new battle royale-style mode pits players against each other in a fight to be the last one standing. On the official Call of Duty website, Activision revealed that Blackout will be playable solo or in teams"

Wasn't this in prev. CoD games like Sticks and Stones or something? Also, death match to the last man standing? Seriously.........

Avatar image for VXXXJesterXXXV

@kgsg-19-2: pretty sure that cod has never had 100+ players(rumored/expected) or any vehicles in multi or even drivable in any form in the past. So there is new to cod stuff happening here.

Avatar image for DETfaninATL

I'm pretty much done w COD at this point. If I need a military shooter I'll stick with Battlefield, even if it is an EA published game

Avatar image for StonerDemon

This game shouldn't be fully priced at launch. No proper single player mode, recycled multiplayer and the only "new" addition of a me-too battle royal mode... It should cost $39.99.

Avatar image for skittymiao

Really miss the "Modern Warfare" days...

Avatar image for madskills6117

At this point they’re even running out of ways to pretend this new.

Avatar image for batusai4ever

this is a total **** single player campaign? Only MP and cost $60? Hell no people!!!

I may buy at $20 but not a penny more and that's taking a high risk. While I don't like Fortnite guess what, IT'S FREE!!!

Avatar image for lionheartssj1

Fortnite will still be free, so I'll probably play that instead.

Avatar image for heqteur

In other news, water is wet, snow is cold and fire burns. Up next, our biggest scoop yet: there will be guns and grenades in Black ops 4!

Avatar image for kaluaj

So do you think the blackout or battle royal mode will be free like it is for fortnight?... haha yeah right.

Avatar image for itchyflop

ha blatant cash grab on the success of fortnight and pubg!

What a rip

Avatar image for UltimateBastard

Oh dear god, I called this a month ago, when they said BO4 would be "pushing the envelope" that what they really meant was, take ideas from other games currently popular and shoe horn them into their game. I even went on to say, and I was taking the piss at this stage saying, I wouldn't even be surprised if they add a BR mode even though it most certainly wouldn't suit cod style of gameplay. But here you have it.

Avatar image for Sindroid

"Pushing the Envelope.....with a fat stack of cash under the table to exec. heads at Activision"

Avatar image for Gomtor

People still buying this?

Avatar image for s7eventhheaven

new mode? dont you mean replacement for single player campaign.... to be fair this actually sounds like a pretty big deal , i hope this is included in the beta so we can at least have a look at it first before deciding whether its worth it

E3, Skyrim Battle Royale announced! Coming to Switch, Vape, and self driving cars.

Avatar image for Sadek

As usual, these greedy publishers will over do the Battle Royale mode to such an extent that we'll all be done with Battle Royale in general in another 12 to 16 months.

Avatar image for Donut0389

@Sadek: I'm debating whether or not I like Battle Royale games. Just started Fortnite. It's looking like I just can't get into it. 28 matches played. 8 eliminations. I almost never die because of lack of skill. It's 95% of the time because I drop in, find a pistol and 25 shields, and then 30 seconds later get killed by someone who found a rare AR, a rare shotgun, 100 shielding, and three grenades.

If I don't get killed within a minute of dropping in, I wander around seeing no one until there's only 15 players left and THEN someone kills me. Usually because shotguns are OP horseshit in Fortnite.

Avatar image for Sadek

@Donut0389: You seem to be coming at BR games from a regular team death match perspective. There's a different rhythm where. It's a game of cat & mouse with a combination of shooting & building. Maybe look at it as a hunting game where you're the hunter and the prey. Once you get into the rhythm of it, Fortnite is currently the best BR game mainly because of the excellent building and destruction mechanics.

Avatar image for Donut0389

@Sadek: After playing more, I agree. I changed my style my a bit. I land in sparsely traveled areas and then slowly make my way in. Hug the storm wall if possible. I now tend to routinely get top 25. Maybe one or two kills. Best so far is top 2 with 3 kills.

But I'm having way more fun. I aim for top 30 and at least one elimination.

Blacks Ops & Boots on the ground!?! Day One 4 me!!!!

Avatar image for wexorian

Activision is innovative as always , keep it up boys !!! "sarcasm"

Avatar image for tomcat205

lol they say "this is totally new" what bout PUBG? RIP COD

Avatar image for MALEVOLENT312

I never played COD for the campaigns. People who are upset there is no campaign will get over it. The campaigns were so short anyways. I hope the game is more like Black Ops 1 and 2, but from the footage it looks like it is continuation of BO3. No campaign, same price!

Avatar image for MALEVOLENT312

@MALEVOLENT312: The series needs better maps. The last couple of COD games the DLC maps were terrible. Need maps like BO 1 & 2. Maps suck, game sucks!

Avatar image for AyatollaofRnR

Fortnite has never really appealed to me. And in terms of MP mode with a large number of players I'd prefer Battlefield.

COD BR just seems like it'll be a less budget PUBG.

Avatar image for realninja

@AyatollaofRnR: COD will have a huge budget.. they will just take all the bo maps and spread them out over a big map with space in between. They then will contain kill streaks to an area of they have kill streaks

Avatar image for whenk

after skipping every single cod since blops 2 and playing the abomination that COD WW2 was i've been forever turned off from call of duty. it's dead to me.

Avatar image for Roy023

I've skipped the Blops and AWs because of the futuristic things like the exosuits, but really enjoyed WW2.

What turend you off about WW2? (Just out of curiosity)

Avatar image for whenk

@Roy023: There was nothing interesting about the campaign, it such a linear experience with so many scripted cut-scenes where you tap X or whatever and I really don't think that's any fun. Also I thought the character dialogue in the campaign was cringy, like it sounds like a john wayne ww2 movie. The best mission was the one where you are that french chick in Germany the rest of it was just "meh". Multiplayer was horrendous, I only enjoyed one map the rest were just pure three lane/run in a circle and shoot each other cancer. (it was the cannon train map) I thought the zombies was too easy/cartoony. They said it was going to be a terrifying experience but the zombies all sounded like the Tasmanian devil off of loony tunes. I really liked infinite warfare more than cod ww2, in fact the only reason i bought ww2 was because I played infinite warfare and thought "this game isn't that bad so cod ww2 can't be any worse." boy was I wrong. I just got bamboozled and bought the "GoInG bAcK tO oUr RoOtS" bullcrap and thought it was gonna at the least be like cod WaW

Avatar image for Roy023

@whenk: Ah, good points, albeit mostly personal preference. I didn't really like the MP as well. And the zombies are always a little too hard for me, since I only play with max 2 people. But I did like the campaign a lot. Ah well, opinions, opinions. Thanks for getting back to me.

Being an older gamer I am very over COD games but that said I think it is sad they took out something most of us enjoyed. But to each their own as at least it will run better than PUBG and look nicer. I for one love my story games so means little here.

Avatar image for pappafost

@Barzenak42: I'm right there with you. I can only assume that they had data to show that most of their audience would still buy it without a single player campaign. Which for all I know was the most expensive, and least touched element of the package.

Avatar image for VXXXJesterXXXV

@pappafost: ive seen numbers being tossed around that "only" half the players complete campaign in cod. Thing is when a game has sold 15/20+ million copies that's a shit load of people that play it. Saying "only" 7.5-10 million people complete campaign" doesn't seem as insignificant...
