Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Could Use Blizzard's Battle.Net

For the Horde!

Now that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is officially confirmed and teased, an intriguing new detail has popped up that could signal Activision's plans. It appears that like Destiny 2, Black Ops 4 may borrow Blizzard's PC distribution platform, Battle.net.

The official Call of Duty Profile site received an update alongside the Black Ops 4 announcement (via Charlie Intel). In the new update, users can link their Battle.net account with their existing Call of Duty account. That would certainly seem to indicate that Call of Duty games on PC, and more particularly Black Ops 4, may be available through Battle.net.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 Officially Confirmed, Release Date Earlier Than Usual

If Activision makes Black Ops 4 a Battle.net exclusive, as it did with Destiny 2 last year, it will enjoy the benefits of having sole distribution of one of its biggest games. Historically Battle.net has been devoted only to Blizzard games, but players seemed to accept last year's toe-dipping experiment. It seems likely the company has more ambitious plans for it going forward.

Black Ops 4 is coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 12–notably, there was no word of a Switch version in today's announcement. It's being developed by Treyarch.
