Call Of Duty 4 Remaster Listed For Standalone Release - Report

It appears that Modern Warfare Remastered is getting a standalone release.

Currently, the only way to get the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remaster, Modern Warfare Remastered, is to pick up premium versions of Infinite Warfare. That might change soon, however.

Since-removed product pages on GameFly spotted by CharlieIntel suggest that Activision might be planning to offer Modern Warfare Remastered on its own. A page for the PS4 edition apparently showed a launch date of June 20, with an Xbox One version said to come a month later, on July 20.

If the game is indeed seeing a standalone release, the different launch dates could be the result of Activision's exclusivity deal with Sony. All Call of Duty DLC now launches first on PS4 before coming to other platforms later. New installments in the mainline series, however, have been released simultaneously, so this would be a change of form, in a way.

Bear in mind that none of this is confirmed at this stage. Activision has never said that it won't offer Modern Warfare Remastered on its eventually, but it also never said it would. We have contacted Activision in an attempt to get more details.

The GameFly product pages for Modern Warfare Remastered don't mention a price. It seems unlikely that it would be a full-price game, with something in the range of $20-$40 seeming more likely. If Modern Warfare Remastered is indeed getting a standalone release, presumably it would also come to PC.

Modern Warfare Remastered contains the entire campaign from the 2007 original, updated with new graphics, as well as a similarly updated multiplayer mode. Activision is also releasing DLC for Modern Warfare Remastered, with the Variety Map Pack arriving in March.
