Call Of Duty 4 Remaster Listed For Standalone Release - Report

It appears that Modern Warfare Remastered is getting a standalone release.

Currently, the only way to get the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remaster, Modern Warfare Remastered, is to pick up premium versions of Infinite Warfare. That might change soon, however.

Since-removed product pages on GameFly spotted by CharlieIntel suggest that Activision might be planning to offer Modern Warfare Remastered on its own. A page for the PS4 edition apparently showed a launch date of June 20, with an Xbox One version said to come a month later, on July 20.

No Caption Provided

If the game is indeed seeing a standalone release, the different launch dates could be the result of Activision's exclusivity deal with Sony. All Call of Duty DLC now launches first on PS4 before coming to other platforms later. New installments in the mainline series, however, have been released simultaneously, so this would be a change of form, in a way.

Bear in mind that none of this is confirmed at this stage. Activision has never said that it won't offer Modern Warfare Remastered on its eventually, but it also never said it would. We have contacted Activision in an attempt to get more details.

The GameFly product pages for Modern Warfare Remastered don't mention a price. It seems unlikely that it would be a full-price game, with something in the range of $20-$40 seeming more likely. If Modern Warfare Remastered is indeed getting a standalone release, presumably it would also come to PC.

Modern Warfare Remastered contains the entire campaign from the 2007 original, updated with new graphics, as well as a similarly updated multiplayer mode. Activision is also releasing DLC for Modern Warfare Remastered, with the Variety Map Pack arriving in March.

Would you be interested in Modern Warfare Remastered being offered on its own? Let us know in the comments below!

Why does PlayStation get it first? It's not a DLC release, it's a GAME release....everybody should get it at the same time.

It's kinda late for it to finally release when most of the player base is already dying and on top of that why are they charging so much for the map packs? For anyone who's going to get it, i recommend not spending no more than $20 for a physical release and $15 for a digital.

If it is physical release then I'd gladly pay $20-$30 for it. However if it is Digital Only then this standalone version loses a ton of Value so the MAX I would pay would be $15.

$20-40 for a decade old game that's just polished?

LMAO it should be $20 MAXIMUM and that's not saying that it even deserves a $20 price tag. Even the first CoD game is still $20 and its almost 15 years old. Besides at this point you'll be paying $20-40 for a outdated engine that only offers a single player campaign with a multiplayer that will probably last a month or 2 at most before it dies again.

People need to stop supporting this business model. They're a developer that's rehashing old material because they're running out of new material to put in their games.

No thanks. Not supporting the COD re-release behavior. I'll support it for other companies and titles worthy of release but not cheap cash grabs like this.

@nyran125tk: CS has the most toxic player base and cheaters of any online game, which is the main reason I stopped playing it and switched to console FPS. Not that there is no toxicity and cheating on consoles, but definitely much less from my experience. Plus, I can always find people to play with, even years after a game's release. Played CoD Ghosts just recently and was suprised how many games I could find.

@wearelegion5000: there's 500'000 people playing CS everyday, thats more than all the Battlefields combined across all consoles and all platforms and all battlefields. Competitive CS is fine and interestingly , i should of taken a photo of this. But i got a notification today that 2 of the people i reported were banned and I got a thank you emblem for reporting them , for Valve through VAC. So when you see a REAL hacker, not one that you think is hacking , but is just a good player. Report them.

it better cost like 15 or 30 US dollars by now. if only they did this in the beginning, most call of duty veterans would have got modern warfare remaster instead the combo pack with infinite warfare.

Can't say I'm surprised. This is basically exactly what people were expecting when the infinite warfare/modern warfare bundle was announced. Shitty for customers that bought the bundle just for the Remaster but for Activision it is all about making money and maximising their profit. This was probably the best marketing strategy for them in this case.

@Khasym: we'll see. COD games aren't selling like they did at their peak but they still result in good numbers by most videogame standards. WWII might also attract fans that were turned off from the more recent releases.

They should of done this from the get go, but it's almost clear they knew their latest release was even a bigger pile of S*** than the last 4 years releases, so what do you do...sucker people into spending 80 bucks for a crappy game to play a remastered game that they love. Glad I waited, CoD games blow C*** these days...maybe the WW2 might finally be a good one again.

Activision are the greediest company I can think of in gaming. They knew they could make some people buy a game they didn't want to play a game they did and now they're going to sell it to the remaining people still interested in it.

Did you know they're still selling the MW2 expansions at £11.09 EACH? They're still charging £7.89 for WAW expansions for crying out loud! Those games are approaching a decade old and aren't even current gen. I noticed about 4 years ago and have been keeping an eye on the prices out of curiosity ever since.

@StokeMeAClipper: well I can see why they haven't dropped the price on the Xbox side. All that dlc works on current gen for WaW because it's backwards compatible

@Blade_Runner_07: That's the price on PS Store. The majority of games DLC drops considerably in price after a couple of years or when a sequel in the same franchise is released as they focus all their attention on the new title and minimal support is offered on the older game. The price was still outrageous by the time XB1 came out (as they were no longer current gen titles) and I'm pretty sure that MS didn't have 360 backwards compatibility working (even internally) until the XB1 had been out for a while.

Before someone calls me a cheapskate, I'm perfectly willing to buy DLC at full price if I feel it is worth the price and/or I'll get my money's worth. I wasn't interested in playing the multi-player of MW2 and WAW at the time as I was working through a backlog of single player games. I got back into playing multi-player shooters a few years back and thought it might be fun to see what I'd missed and see if any people were still playing until I saw the price. As I said above, I'm now keeping track of it not because I want to buy it but just to see how long Activision continue to take the piss.

@StokeMeAClipper: The price comes from a still-active online community. It doesn't matter to Activision how much DLC they sell or not on these old games, but that the online community is big enough to justify the asking price. Call of Duty has taken a big chunk of the annual online gaming pie for a decade now.

As far as age and amount of content goes, all maps for every game released before 2012 should be $1 each. I agree that the DLC is stupid expensive and it keeps me from enjoying more Zombie DLC like Call of the Dead.

You are NOT a cheapskate bro. I'm in a similar boat with Nintendo and how I'm just standing back and watching them "take the piss" and make it prohibitively expensive to enjoy their products just in hopes they get better. As a western gamer I've been spoiled by games that drop $50 in 12 months, free games monthly via online subscription, and the ability to walk into a Wal-mart on any given day of the year and buy a XONE or PS4 right off the shelf...... but yeah. I'm a cheapskate thats "missing out" becasue I don't want to pay $400 for a console that has one game I deem worth a damn on it. Anyway...

I got an Xbox long before backwards comp was there but having gone back and played the last 7 years of Call of Duty (not Modern Warfare 2&3) in the last year via BC, I can understand why DLC is still priced at what it is. Most of these games feel as alive and well as they did on launch day. People who think these games are "dead" or "too old" probably just got caught on a new-game hype train at some point and just never returned. If you had an Xbox One I would be happy to play with you. Might still be a year or so before I start looking at PS4 or something new.

@Blade_Runner_07: Interesting. I would have thought the servers for these games would be largely unpopulated, especially the DLC maps. I guess with backwards compatibility on the XBOX side of things, some of these games have possibly had new life breathed back into them.

I personally enjoy playing older games (right back to the 8-Bit era). I do however know that a lot of people just play what's current and never revisit old games or even sell old games and consoles to raise funds for their new games/consoles. This is why the price of games generally drop significantly after a while and is also why I'm surprised to read your comment saying that these games still have a healthy enough online presence for Activision to feel justified in keeping the price so high (in relation to pretty much any game I can think of).

I'm just so used to reading comments like "servers are dead" for games that are no longer current or have been out for a couple of years that I thought the same would almost certainly be true for WAW/MW2. It's good to hear there are still people playing (at least on XBOX) but I maintain my view that the DLC is overpriced considering their age. From a business perspective, I think they'd actually make more money by lowering the price as I'm sure I'm not the only person that has been put off by the price in relation to the age of the product and the uncertainty of how long the servers will remain up/whether there will be active lobbies etc.

@StokeMeAClipper: Absolutely. I revisited these games (COD/FarCry/Gears/etc) before they were BC and at the very least as long as you just want a basic Team Deathmatch you will get into a game immediately. After they go BC the online population doubles and all modes get a boost in activity. Yeah, players leave after a month or two, but so did the initial players when they launched originally so it's not too bad. Played some World at War for the first time in 8 years last week. Was happy to see my old loadout was still there and that I could do Team Deathmatch all night.

Unfortunately this is an industry like so many, with alot gamers that buy a game at $59.99, play it for a month, and never pick it up again. Most don't finish their games at all and are happy to buy the same game (at least fundamentally) they bought 5 or even 10 years ago if that means a ticket on the hype train leaving the station at this very moment. Especially for games that get annual sequels, I see people almost afraid to revisit games only 2 years old in fear going back to "older graphics" will ruin the experience.

The DLC is overpriced and always has been. Frankly I have never seen fairly priced Map Pack DLC. I won't buy it but I'm not puzzled by it's lasting price either. Like GTAV there are millions of copies still for sale at MORE than half price due to GTAOnline popularity. When the popularity goes down I'm counting on being able to pick up a new copy of GTAV for $15 on any given day. Same may be true for the DLC, but maybe they will never go down.....

Or Activision will bundle all the maps in a remastered collection for Black Ops III. Who knows.

"The GameFly product pages for Modern Warfare Remastered don't mention a price. It seems unlikely that it would be a full-price game, with something in the range of $20-$40 seeming more likely. If Modern Warfare Remastered is indeed getting a standalone release, presumably it would also come to PC."

You realise this is activision right? It'll be £50.

Also I think its far too late to sell it as standalone now. The player base isn't there, its also become pay-to-win with the addition of two new weapons that require either a lot of luck or real money to unlock.

This isn't even mentioning that there's paid DLC for the remaster .....
