Call Of Duty 2020: Activision's "Red Door" Listing Sparks Rumors

Nothing's confirmed, but mounting evidence seems to suggest a Call of Duty 2020 alpha is coming.

(Update: Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's official trailer dropped in Warzone, a week after a mysterious teaser featuring real-life historical footage confirmed its title and setting. The trailer revealed more about the game's Cold War era plot, as well as its release date of November 13, 2020.)

We know a new Call of Duty game for 2020 is officially on the way, but unusually, Activision still hasn't announced it despite us now being in July. But a Microsoft Store listing has emerged for a new, unannounced Activision shooter that may actually be tied to this year's Call of Duty.

The listing calls the game The Red Door, which was seen last month in the PlayStation serial database SerialStation, according to PC Gamer. The accompanying content ID also suggests that a Call of Duty 2020 alpha is incoming, though Activision has not publicly addressed the matter. A similar listing appeared on the Microsoft store.

The Microsoft listing has yet to be taken down as of July 26, which could indicate it's intended to be live as a teaser. But it reveals very little about the game, other than Activision is the publisher, it will weigh in at about 82 GB on Xbox One, is rated Mature, and will be some kind of shooter (though what kind is unclear). The game's description is also vague: "There is more than one truth. If you go looking for answers, be ready to question everything and accept that nothing will ever be the same, The Red Door awaits, do you dare step through it?"

There's no official confirmation that The Red Door is connected to Call of Duty 2020. However, with Activision sitting in the publisher seat and with The Red Door having been mentioned in previous Call of Duty entries--The Rolling Stones' "Paint it Black," which was used in the Black Ops 3 reveal trailer, begins its lyrics with a red door reference--it's likely that the two are associated in some way.

Normally, Activision announces its Call of Duty titles in May, with a gameplay reveal following during the subsequent E3 showcase. With 2020 being disrupted by the surging coronavirus pandemic, however, Call of Duty 2020's unveiling is looking a little unusual this year. Most Call of Duty games arrive between October and November, so it's strange that Activision has yet to officially announce anything about this year's entry.

Call of Duty 2020 is still coming this year, though when and for what platforms remains uncertain at the moment. According to a pro Call of Duty player, this year's entry is being developed by Black Ops studio Treyarch and will reportedly take players back in time to The Cold War.
