One of the most acclaimed games of 2004 was The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay. The film tie-in from Swedish developer Starbreeze and VU Games put players behind the dark goggles of Richard B. Riddick, the tough antihero of Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick. It was released for both the Xbox and PC, the latter version of which was nominated for GameSpot's 2004 Game of the Year award.

Now gamers can enjoy Riddick's blend of stealth and stabbing for free. Today, VU Games made an entire level of the game available via GameSpot DLX. The 205MB download, available below, sees Riddick trying to infiltrate the mainframe computer room of Butcher Bay, the galaxy's most notorious prison.

Following a short help section that explains different gameplay features (climbing obstacles, using the medical stations, fist combat, and so on), players are dropped into the middle of the action, with no weapons to defend themselves. Using stealth, they must work their way through shadows and vents in order to enter the mainframe room, where they can acquire some formidable weaponry. Unfortunately, this same weaponry is in the hands of numerous guards who aren't too keen on Riddick walking around armed--the same guards Riddick must shoot his way through to escape.
