Now Playing: GS News Update: Bully and Manhunt Get Surprise PS4 Releases

Bully and Manhunt, two Rockstar classics from the PlayStation 2-era, have been unexpectedly released on the PlayStation 4. Both titles upscale to 1080p and have been retrofitted with Trophy support.

No Caption Provided

Bully (download here) and Manhunt (download here) can both be purchased for £11.99/€14.99. They are currently only available in Europe, but could show up in North America through the next scheduled PlayStation Store update.

Originally released in 2006, Bully casts players as Jimmy Hopkins, a teenage miscreant that has been dumped by parents at Bullworth Academy, a school ruled by cliques and corrupt teachers. Jimmy must overcome the trials and tribulations of high school to rise to the top of the food chain.

In GameSpot's review of Bully, Jeff Gerstmann gave the game an 8/10, saying its "unique setting and quality gameplay make for an exciting and memorable action adventure."

Manhunt, meanwhile, was released in 2003 and in the years following, was the subject of much controversy. The Rockstar North-developed title mixed the psychological thriller genre with stealth action and horror.

Players take on the role of James Earl Cash, a death row prisoner who finds himself as the subject snuff film. He is promised his freedom, but under the condition that he is able to survive a city full of brutal gang members out to get him.

"Manhunt is an audacious game that backs up its extremely violent subject matter with solid stealth action gameplay," said Greg Kasavin in GameSpot's Manhunt review.

"Obviously, Manhunt isn't for the faint of heart. Like it or not, the game pushes the envelope of video game violence and shows you countless scenes of wholly uncensored, heavily stylized carnage."

so why put out an article when there is no proof that they may be released in North america? i would purchase both again and actually finish Bully- i have no idea why i stopped playing (love all rockstar games) but i got bored with the game and eventually traded it in after only playing it for a few weeks.

@amichalski81: "so why put out an article when there is no proof that they may be released in North america?" because gs caters for a global audience not just those in na... srsly.

@hamopeace: that makes sense- i really hope both become available. here is a great question. can someone in the UK buy the game then send it to me somehow here in NA? i have no idea if that is even possible but that would be a cool idea to give gamers- the ability to share their games with friends.

This game was on sale $3 on the Xbox360 not to long ago and it's the Xbox version so it look better than this PS2 port

Which version of Bully is it? Is it the PS2 or 360 version?

I can already play them in 1080p on my pc.

How about Bully 2 and Manhunt 3 for PS4? Well, at least Bully 2. Manhunt 3 would have to be a pc exclusive, since Sony and Microsoft are pussies about the AO rating.

I hope Bully for Xbox 360 becomes backward compatible on Xbox One.

It would be awesome if they could release it on disc as a double feature. I'd definitely buy it.

Now we need bully on the bc list, so I can finally finish that dam game

Wasn't Bully re-released for ps3? Why not use that version?

Avatar image for mddg_mmcc
mddg_mmcc

@SpicyRamen10: No. I think it might be a "PS2 Classic" digital release on PS3, but Bully: Scholarship Edition was only on Wii, 360, and PC.

@mddg_mmcc: Oh yea, I was thinking about the Scholarship Edition...which wasn't actually on the ps3.

Bully is one of those games that is good but I dropped real quick when I had something else to play. I don't know maybe because it was too much going back and forth running around for me. Too many needy people that need something on the other side of campus, I'm just trying to go get my A.

I still have my PS2 copy, but a re-release of Manhunt sounds oh so sweet.

Bully is still my favorite Rockstar game by a country mile.

I still play both of those games every once in awhile on PC.

The release of Bully is my all-time favorite video game controversy. It's a game where you stand up to bullies, get punished for being one, are forced to go to school or you get punished, and you can essentially play as a gay character. It's probably the most progressive game I've ever played.

And the one thing it had over every other R* game is SEASONS. I hope they add that to the next GTA and Red Dead.

Is Manhunt still super broken on PC? The last I heard (which admittedly was years ago), it has a gamebreaking bug in the tutorial that always happens. That version is literally worthless. Don't know if modders have fixed it since*, but I very much doubt Take2 suddenly decided to bother. They (and Valve etc.) were happy to continue selling the game though.

The 360 port of Bully had severe issues with glitches and performance issues. The PC port was apparently even worse. Oh and GTA: San Andreas HD on 360. Rockstar has a history of shoddy ports. They really don't seem to care about quality, instead prioritizing cheap production and these ports being out there making them money.

*Yup, modders fixed it.
One reason to be apprehensive towards Microsoft's UWP. Currently you can not modify game files, so whatever issues there are that the developer does not address, will ostensibly remain forever. Now I'm wondering what Microsoft's refund policy is like.

Something like this. AKA no refunds.
You can get a refund if the support staff deems it justified, but I was told it was a one time only offer. Another area where Microsoft needs to step up to compete with GOG, Origin and Steam.

I would prefer a remaster of Scholarship Edition.

Avatar image for deactivated-5c79c3cfce222

@xshinobi: The Scholarship Edition had "All new classes and missions". I don't know how significant those additions were, but it is odd that they are not porting the version with the most content. I think this goes to show how Take2 isn't particularly interested in making an effort with their ports.

But I suppose, if this is just an upressed port... If there's no additional work that could mess things up, like with the awful 360 and PC ports, Take2's refusal to commit to the quality of their ports, could end improving the quality of this port. Isn't that ironic? I wouldn't count on it, but you know, seems plausible at least. Less potential for it being a mess.

@xshinobi: That was never on PlayStation.

@davillain-: Manhunt 2 wasn't very good. I've played Manhunt many times, but I couldn't even finish Manhunt 2. That game completely missed the point IMO.

@PS2fweak: Oh, I didn't know it was that bad. Guess I dodge a bullet then lol.

@davillain-: Plus, it was censored on consoles.
It should be cheap to get the PC version at this point, though.

@Warlord_Irochi: yeah it was censored and was just an awful play through. it didn't live up to Manhunt 1 by any means

Avatar image for Barighm

@Warlord_Irochi: At least we didn't ASK to pay for them (they go on sale, fyi). Xbox owners did, even though they were already getting the service for free. What sounds dumber?

Avatar image for suicidesn0wman

@Barighm: So Xbox gives you the option to play last gen games for free if you already own them, or the option to buy games you may have missed, and somehow that makes the option worse?

At some point you must have stopped to think about how retarded that might sound, and yet still hit the post reply button.

@numinex10: The fun factor is the only thing that counts when you are buying/playing games.

Avatar image for PS2fweak
PS2fweak

@numinex10: Why would they thank or laugh? It balances out. They spend money to re-release, fans spend money on a game they still love and want to play.

Please tell me you're not one of those people who just refuse to re-purchase an older game based on principle? What logic do you people use?

Avatar image for suicidesn0wman
suicidesn0wman

@PS2fweak: They already got my money, why should I pay them again for a game I already paid them for?

Avatar image for PS2fweak
PS2fweak

@suicidesn0wman: They got money from you to pay back the money they invested at that time, with the hopes of also generating profits. If they spent no money to re-release, I would agree with you. Now if people want it, they're paying for what R* invested into the re-release. It's a completely different product.

The reality is they could lose money, so it's not just about them being greedy. Yeah, they want to profit from the re-release, but if they couldn't, where would their motivation come from?

@numinex10:

I just checked online and it's $9.99 GameStop and $19.99 Amazon. A quick check on eBay didn't look cheap either except for the wii and 360 versions. I've never played the game and don't know why those versions are cheaper but for ps2 it doesn't look to be out of line.

U.S. Searches btw. I know this isn't US but it's likely to release here also.

Avatar image for brn-dn

@numinex10: It's worth the $10-$15 to me so I can play it on PS4 and earn trophies.
