Breaking Bad, LOTR Writer Reacts To Mass Effect TV Show
"I should go... make some calls."
According to a report, Amazon is in discussions with EA to make a Mass Effect TV show. Nothing is confirmed yet, but one person who is excited about it is Breaking Bad writer Gennifer Hutchison. In response to the news, Hutchison wrote on Twitter, "I should go... make some calls."
Hutchison added that she doesn't have any inside knowledge of the project. "I don't know if this is a real thing. I know literally nothing. This is fangirl posting and nothing more," Hutchison said.
Hutchison is already working with Amazon on The Lord of the Rings series, but whether or not that would have any impact on Hutchison potentially working on a theoretical Mass Effect show is unknown.
BioWare has been trying to expand the Mass Effect series to more screens for the past decade-plus. A Mass Effect film was announced in 2010 with Legendary set to produce and Warner Bros. on board to distribute the project based on BioWare's RPG series. One of the hired writers, Thor's Mark Protosevich, eventually dropped out, and the project never got off the ground.
BioWare's Mac Walters said in June this year that TV is a better fit for Mass Effect.
"If you're going to tell a story that's as fleshed out as Mass Effect, TV is the way to do it. There's a natural way it fits well with episodic content," he explained.
According to Deadline's report, no deal has been made yet for Amazon to produce a Mass Effect show, and even if it is greenlit, it would likely still be some time off. Still, it's an exciting idea to think about. Amazon has been investing in video game properties of late, as the company is producing a Fallout TV show with Westworld's Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy.
As for the Mass Effect game series, a new game is on the way and new teaser art just dropped, hinting at the return of the Geth.
