Borderlands Movie: Kevin Hart Says The Film Is Visually Unlike Anything You've Ever Seen

Hart also discusses how his part as Roland is a change of pace with "no comedy."

Actor Kevin Hart is playing Roland in the upcoming Borderlands film, and now he has shared some insight on his character and the movie overall. Speaking to Collider, Hart said the film represents a change of pace for him in that his character isn't expected to bring a comedic element to the movie.

"It's all about the shock factor. This is me stepping into action full speed ahead, no comedy. I'm responsible for the action," Hart said.

Hart said he trained with Navy SEALs to prepare for the role and he "got real good with weapons" and hand-to-hand combat.

Also in the interview, Hart said it's been a surreal experience to film the Borderlands movie in Budapest with the assembled cast that includes a lot of other big names like Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis.

"I mean, our cast is unreal," Hart said, adding that director Eli Roth is "truly knocking this movie out of the park." He also teased how the movie will look, visually speaking.

"And I can say visually, it's like nothing you've ever seen," he said. "Somehow I find myself in these spaces where you get a part of these IPs that are hitting the big screen and have the potential to become so much more. ... Borderlands, nobody knows what to expect, but if this thing comes and it smacks people correctly, you could be looking at Borderlands 2, Borderlands 3. It's that good."

In addition to Hart (Roland), Blanchett (Lilith), and Curtis (Tannis), the Borderlands film features Jack Black (Claptrap) and Ariana Greenblatt (Tiny Tina). You can see the full cast list below. There is no word yet on a release date for the film.
