In March, 2K Games and Gearbox Software announced a partnership with the Academy of Art University for a project that will see students create an animated short set in the Borderlands universe. Now, that short has been given a name and a release date.

The first installment in Borderlands - Tales From The HQ will be available on YouTube beginning next month. The project began as a single short film, but after growing in size, it was decided that the campaign would be expanded into a series of three short films.

Fourteen different storyboards were created and three were ultimately chosen for animation. In one of these stories "Bride of Frankentrap," Claptrap struggles with being the last robot of his kind, unable to find his true love.

"The decision to create a series of three short stories instead of just one resulted in far more original and imaginative ideas than anyone could have hoped for, and we're really excited to share them with you in about a month's time," 2K said.

The Borderlands animated short film series is part of the Borderlands Cooperative, a partnership between 2K, Gearbox Software, and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Two students worked at 2K as summer interns, and one of the interns was kept on in a full-time capacity.

Borderlands 2, released in September 2012, is the most recent entry in the shooter series. It has shipped over 7.5 million copies to date and is on pace to become 2K's best-selling game of all time.
