Borderlands 3 Hotfix Update Stops Legendary Loot Farming

Gearbox has spotted--and rectified--the "loot cave" in Borderlands 3.

Developer Gearbox is working hard to ensure Borderlands 3 remains in tiptop condition. A week after release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, Gearbox is deploying a series of hotfixes to address some of the looter-shooter's growing pains.

A list of hotfixes was outlined on Gearbox's forums. These include making completion paths more obvious, leveling down some enemies, scaling back the growth frequency of Eridium crystals, and more. Along with the hotfixes comes an adjustment to the "loot cave," meaning you can no longer farm legendary weapons from a purple-tinged loot tink in Mayhem mode. Gearbox is aware these hotfixes don't address "issues the community is immediately concerned with." However, the studio is toiling away at "evaluating performance problems and potential solutions for them."

The hotfixes will be automatically applied when connected to the internet. When you boot up Borderlands 3, the only thing you have to check for is the “updates are available” message in the in-game menu. Hang out in the menu screen and the hotfixes should apply after a minute.

Full Borderlands 3 Hotfix Update Notes

  • The New-U Station in front of Titian’s Gate (used during the "Atlas, At Last" Mission) in the Meridian Metroplex now has a larger activation range.
  • The first Guardian a player runs into during the "Beneath the Meridian" mission is no longer over-leveled.
  • The Eridian chest by the Grotto in the Jakob’s Estate is no longer invisible.

Confused why they even care. I remember BL2 being so easy to mod and get loaded if you wanted to.

Is this not the same? This isn't even really a competitive game. It's a lot of fun but one that doesn't need stringent moderation.

Don't know why people are disappointed in the drop rate being toned down. Some bosses in mayhem 3 could drop 6 or 7 legendaries at a time and if you have a decent build or used the pipe bomb glitch then they weren't that hard at all. Chupacabratch was even easier and still dropped multiple legendaries. I had max inventory space on flak and max bank space and i was literally full of legendaries. So i had 90 legendaries not including the one's on my wall. It was rediculous. I had to drop about 30 out of my backpack to make room for unique red text gear from side quests. I'm glad they turned it down. Now it feels special when they drop like it used to. I farmed rakkman after the patch and on mayhem 1 i killed him 19 times and didn't get the night flyer. Switched to mayhem 3 and got it on my second try. Before the patch i probably would have got it on mayhem 1 on my first try. It really did need changing. There's no tier above legendary yet and legendaries were starting to feel like blues.

They still drop fairly decently on mayhem 3 but i have a feeling that mode will be useful when they add the next tier. Be it pearlescents or whatever.

It's a non-competitive Looter Shooter. I said it about Destiny and I'll say it about Borderlands. Who the **** is it hurting to have a farmable loot location? And why patch it out? At least do something fun with it. Like have the game detect a player who remains in the area for too long and spawn an [actual] Invincible creature to kick their ass. Or even just spawn an Invincible Boss like the Varkid in BL2. You know Gearbox is just going to put in Raid bosses that rain loot like they have in the past anyway. This could be the exchange for having a Loot Cave.

@DarkReign2022: When you're designing anything that is meant to be consumed, you have to somewhat guide the consumer to the most interesting parts of your work. If there is a method that is optimal for doing anything in a game, many players will seek to do that or feel pressured to do it when they find it. If that method is not going to be fun for the long term and is too great an advantage over other options, you risk players burning themselves out and quitting due to bored. You can argue that the players don't have to do that, and that they can find other ways to play and be happy with what they get, but time and again this plays out the same way. People will gravitate towards more optimal play, so the best bet to maintain player engagement is to ensure that the fun ways to play are also optimal.

I guess no intro skipping is a non-issue since you only have to sit through that 4 times....
