Borderlands 3 Gets An Expanded Bank, And Future Updates Have Been Detailed

A quick look into the future of Gearbox's loot shooter.

Gearbox has been rolling out regular updates for huge loot shooter Borderlands 3, and there's plenty more on the way. In late October, the studio outlined its roadmap for the coming weeks in terms of what we can expect from future hotfixes and patches for the co-op game. Those include some welcome improvements and changes for the bank, character balance, and Mayhem mode.

Gearbox says game performance and stability continues to be its top priority. An upcoming November patch promises to introduce various improvements games-wide, with the studio saying, "performance and stability will continue to be an ongoing effort with more fixes rolled out with each upcoming patch."

One of the most requested features by the community is an expansion to Borderlands 3's bank. As a result, Gearbox has begun laying the groundwork for expanding the bank. The upcoming release of Takedown at Maliwan's Blacksite will introduce a significant expansion to the bank that will more than double the existing space for storing your items.

Bosses will also be getting dedicated loot pools to ensure that more specific gear drops from defeated bosses. Once this happens as an expected part of the November update, you'll be able to go to a specific boss and get the specific gear you're looking for, saving a lot of time and hassle.

Gearbox says it will be introducing some character buffs as well, since Moze's Iron Bear, FL4K's pets, and Zane's Digi-Clone/SNTL aren't performing as well as expected when Mayhem Mode is activated in the late stages of the game. The developer is looking at ways to adjust damage according to the relevant skills and gear, to make sure Borderlands 3 has as many viable character builds as possible.

Speaking of Mayhem mode, Gearbox is also planning a significant revamp that will introduce a host of improvements to the way it works. The first update will, once again, be released as part of Takedown at Maliwan's Blacksite, and will include the first new Mayhem Mode level, Mayhem 4. The new level promises to offer a significant challenge, with tougher enemies and better rewards that revolve around new Legendary gear. Beyond this, Gearbox will eventually overhaul Mayhem Mode with Mayhem 2.0, adding more UI support, playlists, additional levels, new rewards, and new Mayhem Modifiers that will dramatically change the gameplay.

Lastly, there will be new vending machines cropping up throughout Borderlands 3's planet-hopping adventure. Gearbox is also hard at work trying to find a solution that will let you skip cutscenes, and it's introducing a target dummy so you can easily test your gear on Sanctuary.

As for the newest patch, the update fixes numerous bugs afflicting Borderlands 3 by addressing various crashes, removing a reported bug in the Space-Laser Tag mission that prevented some players from progressing to the next objective, and altering the Flakker weapon so it now consumes one ammo instead of five, among a host of other changes detailed in the full patch notes.

There's also a free Bloody Harvest Halloween event now live, introducing spooky new cosmetics like skins and weapon elements, the new Bloody Harvest boss, and a new Legendary weapon. GameSpot has all of the details on how you can access the Halloween-themed event and when it comes to an end.

Loot drops seriously need to be better. I've been getting nothing but trash. Boss fights have given me nothing green useless weapons.

I was a big fan of Borderlands 2, but after beating Borderlands 3 it's so boring. You get weapons to beat the same boss you just did without that new one, so you really think someone would do it again?

I guess i was expecting too much from this game. The networking was crazy laggy (PC), the engine used way too much to run the game. The devs can't make up their mind with nerfs. It's almost like the devs think Borderlands 3 is some MMO.

This game is very outed. We are sitting here reading upcoming updates about loot storage, really? I want to bet that it's all because of that bad game Battleborn. I don't see too many people even playing this after a few months, just to boring.

2 months later and they still haven't touched any of the progression bugs. Why do I have locations like Cistern of Slaughter saying 0/1 found when I have beaten it multiple times now? Other places show like 4/3 quick travel locations found.

Things like better performance and increased bank space should already be in the game. Those two things specifically should have been in the first week of launch. Fancy having hundreds if not thousands of weapns/variations in the game on top of tons of grenade mods, relics, class mods ect and only giving a max bank space of 50 across all characters. It should be in the hundreds. And performance fixes should be obvious.

Right now they should be releasing DLC 1 or at the very least that maliwan update should be out. The game game out 2 months ago and all we've had since launch is the little halloween event with a couple of weapons that can be completely finished in one sitting. I finished everything in the game after a week and a half and haven't touched the game in a while. Once you've got every legendary and built all 4 characters how you want and got all the easter egg legendaries then what is there left to do? These fixes stated here should already be in the game. More bank space, training dummy and performance fixes should be done after 2 months. Where is all the content? Will we get a new rarity with maliwan takedown? What's the point in having mayhem 4 that increases loot drops when legendary is the max rarity and most people have/have had them all? Takedown is yet more comtent you can do within one 30 minute sitting but where's all the proper content? More proper missions, a new rarity, new zones and more than a couple weapons at a time is all i want. This will probably all come in DLC 1 but if you think about it that is over 3 months until the game gets some proper content, these small content drops are fine for an afternoon and then you go back to other games. I want something that will keep me busy throughout the life of the game and if it's anything like launch, there will be little to nothing to do between dlc 1 and 2. I'm also not happy with the fact that there's going to be no additional characters.

Maybe I'm asking for too much but imo these fixes coming up should already be in the game and there's nothing worthwhile to do in the game until DLC 1 next month.

Face it , they should have just used the same engine as Borderlands 2 which is far more fun anyway.

A lot of those "additional features" sound like things we took for granted in the previous games.

Gearbox already "found a solution" to enable cutscene skipping, and it's already in the game. You can skip the opening cutscene and intro when starting a new playthrough on TVHM. All they have to do is enable it on all cutscenes, in all modes.

As for increasing bank storage, shouldn't that be as simple as changing the number in the code, increasing the bank storage value from 50 to whatever, or is there really more to it than that?

@Freezezzy: They're trying to decide if they should make it a feature of future paid DLC or a patch. I'm sure Pitchford would prefer the former.

How about fixing the game from hard crashing my Xbox One X? Stopped playing after this happened 3 times in one week. No issues with any other games.

@doodoflife: It's weird, when I first started to play the game on Xbox, I had no real issues. After the 2 nerf filled hotfixes, my game stutters and lags like mad, freezes completely or crashes to the dash. Heck, going through the in game menu for your character is a laggy mess now. That's what happens when your main focus is class and loot balance in a PvE game....

Did they fix ANY of the graphical frame rate issues on PS Pro or Xbox one X yet?

It's funny they're touching the Flakker at all, given how they mutilated it with the prior nerf.

Most of my time in mayhem is spent reviving my pet so a buff for them would be welcome after the nerfs they gave FL4K. His builds are so dependent on gear now - gear that I can't seem to find.

I would rather play a delayed game that is good than an “on time” game full of glitches. Here’s looking at you EA and Bethesda.
