Blizzard's World Championship Series Global Finals kicked off with MVP's Kim 'duckdeok' Kyeong eliminating the WCS Season 1 Champion and tournament favorite Lee 'INnoVation' Shin Hyung in a five-map series.

StarTale's Choi 'Bomber' Ji Sung did similar, taking out Lee's teammate Mun 'MMA' Seong Won in a thrilling 5-map Terran vs Terran series. "A win is a win, but more importantly has given me confidence going forward" Kim told OnGamers after the win. "In games 1-4 my play was pretty predictable, so when I went into Game 5 I decided to switch it up. I think he was affected and that's why I had an advantage in the last game."

Kim will now play another Terran, WCS Korea Season 2 Champion Cho 'Maru' Sung Choo in the next round. Kim says he will use the confidence from his win against Lee for his next Terran matchup.

"In Terran vs Terran, I'm confident no matter who my opponent is" Choi told onGamers on his consistently strong play against Terran. "I just went into the game confident I'd win the whole series." Choi will play number one seed Kim 'SoulKey' Seul Ki in the Round of 8, a zerg matchup he said he'd rather not play.

If he's able to get past his next hurdle, getting to the BlizzCon finals would mean everything to him. "If I get to the finals and have a chance to win BlizzCon, I believe it'd be the highlight of my career."

The Round of 8 will be played later today.
