Blizzard trademarks "The Dark Below"
World of Warcraft and Diablo developer files new trademark application a week ahead of "special announcement" for Gamescom.
Blizzard Entertainment has filed a trademark application for "The Dark Below" one week before Gamescom, where the company has promised a "special announcement."
The trademark (via Massively) does not give any further detail regarding what The Dark Below may pertain to and a company representative was not immediately available to comment.
A Gamescom invitation sent to media last month said, "We're making a special announcement that's sure to capture the attention of the Heavens, Burning Hells, and all the shadowed places that lie between."
During an earnings call earlier this month, Blizzard Entertainment president and cofounder Mike Morhaime said the company's Gamescom announcement would be related to Diablo.
The event itself will take place on the first day of Gamescom, August 21, at 11:30 a.m. local time. Gamescom takes place August 21-25 in Cologne, Germany.
GameSpot will be on-hand at the event.
