For the first time in a long time, the PC-focused Blizzard Entertainment is supporting consoles in a significant way through Diablo III for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (released in September) and the upcoming Ultimate Evil PlayStation 4 version in 2014. This support could be extended to more Blizzard games on consoles in the future, Diablo III senior level designer Matthew Berger told GameSpot at BlizzCon.

"At Blizzard, we're passionate about console games. And as long as our player base is passionate about playing those games, then there is a future for console games at Blizzard," he said. "We are not just PC gamers internally; we play games on console, we play card games, we play role-playing games, board games, so there's all of that, and we like to make the things we love, so it's very natural that we would go back to console."

Blizzard's internal console development team has been "getting more into it" lately, Berger said, and their enthusiasm for consoles could lead to more projects in the future.

"We have these developers now, this team, that has been making a couple of games--Diablo III first, now Reaper of Souls [for console]--and they're getting more into it and they want to keep making console games and they want to attract more of the group to make those console games. So I would hope that there's a huge future for console games at Blizzard. And I think as long as our fans like what we make, then there is a future for it."

Beyond the PS4 version of Diablo III, Blizzard has no further announced console games.
