With Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Jak 3 arriving on the PlayStation 2 this year, there's little question that Sony holds the dominant platformer position. However, that isn't stopping Microsoft from releasing its own entry in the genre.

Today the company announced that it is readying a follow-up to Blinx: The Time Sweeper, its lukewarmly received 2002 platformer. Titled Blinx 2: Masters of Time & Space, the sequel claims to be "the world's first 5-D game, giving players control over both Time and Space." The game's feline protagonist--whose appearance can be customized by the player--will be able to fast-forward and rewind in-game action. The heroic cat will need help, as he must fight an interdimensional army of evil pigs that can control wormholes in space.

Blinx 2: Masters of Time & Space includes a two-player co-op mode that features unique map locations inaccessible in single-player play. The game will also have a battle mode that will allow up to four players to duke it out, although it will not be Xbox Live-enabled. GameSpot will have more on Blinx 2: Masters of Time & Space as details become available. GameSpot's preview has more information on the game.
