Black Panther 2 To Start Filming In July - Report

Marvel's Black Panther 2 is reportedly set to begin filming in July of 2021.

Black Panther 2 is reportedly set to begin shooting in Atlanta in July 2021, after being temporarily sidelined after the tragic and unexpected death of actor Chadwick Boseman, according to sources that spoke with The Hollywood Reporter. The movie was originally scheduled to begin filming in March before the delays.

In addition to the new production date, Narcos: Mexico star Tenoch Huerta is said to be joining the film as an unidentified antagonist. He will star alongside returning cast members from the first Black Panther, including Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong'o, and Angela Bassett.

THR's sources also implied that Wright's character, Shuri, the younger sister of T'Challa, could potentially see a much larger role in the upcoming film. This would be consistent with Shuri's trajectory in the comics, where she has taken over the Black Panther mantle in her brother's stead several times.

There are no updates to offer about recasting the role of T'Challa, but Marvel Studios executive producer Victoria Alonso has already confirmed that there are no plans to digitally recreate or otherwise manufacture a VFX version of Chadwick Boseman to use in the film. "There is only one Chadwick, and he is no longer with us," Alonso said.

While 2020 may have heralded a full-stop for Marvel Studios productions and represented the first year since 2009 where the company released no movies, 2021 is shaping up to look like a very busy year. The first of the much-delayed Disney+ MCU TV shows, WandaVision, will be hitting the platform on January 15, while Black Widow will finally hit theaters on May 7 after being pushed back for a full year.

Black Panther 2 is scheduled for release in 2022.

I hate that they're even in this situation. It's gotta be tough for everyone.

For the BP mantle, I would probably be cool with Shuri taking over. Being the younger sister, I'm sure there would be a heartbreaking bridge to her, plus she's been one of the most likable characters. If they give her some more character flaws to overcome, she could be great character for a long time to come.

Temporarily side-lined with the death of the main actor? I'd expect that's a complete rewrite.

Cast a white actor so the people can watch the real movie- hollywood exploding.

**They should just reboot the character..

I wouldn't touch the role if i was a actor.

I’m my opinion, Micheal B Jordan would be the best replacement if he hadn’t been cast as the antagonist in the first Black Panther.

@Abdulrahman1981: If they hadn't killed him off (which I thought was stupid), they could've fashioned his character into more of an anti-hero protagonist for this film.

@bat725: He may be working on some DC projects, but he doesn't work "for" DC per se. Plenty of actors have worked with both DC and Marvel in the past.

@double_O7: Yeah, but he’s not simply playing a role for DC. He’s producing Static Shock, which he may or may not star in, with the potential to produce DC’s entire Milestone line of characters.

That’s a huge opportunity for MBJ. But, we’ll see. Disney may offer him a truckload of cash. But, I doubt it. Shuri is a shoe in.

How about we throw a curveball and have Micheal B Jordan's killmonger come back and someway somehow understand the role of the black panther, leading to him carrying the role forward

Just a thought. Please let's not with the "female black panther" talk. We already have strong female characters like cap marvel, Wanda, wasp. We also have very strong female characters on their way, like jean grey, storm, invisible woman. Let's not override the most common version of a character simply because there are one or two comics that went wild. There are plenty of characters available, both female and male, that can win the audience over. No need to track down that one comic that justifies a radical change.

@kutraz: You would prefer they recast Black Panther as a genocidal maniac, who also happens to be dead, rather then give the mantle to a living character who makes sense heritage wise and has taken up the role in the comics previously?

Because there are too many strong women in the comic book movies? Jesus get a life.

@CashPrizes:

MBJ was a suggestion but at its core, I am supportive of a recast.

Also, I never said "too many women in the comic book movies".

We have cap-marvel, Wanda, wasp, and there are more OP ones coming, jean grey, storm, invisible woman, she-hulk. Are you aware of the setup for the next MCU phase?? The love for female characters is pretty apparent. But then again, I have followed the MCU from the very beginning, so yes, I will voice my opinion about what change I prefer seeing on screen.

Leave black panther as a dude, just recast him.

Jesus, get your head out of your ***

@CashPrizes: It would make even more sense to just recast the main guy. If he then hands off the mantle to his sister because he's too busy ruling Wakanda, that's fine, but this whole idea that they absolutely can't have someone else play him is ridiculous. It's just one movie, people, and a few side appearances. He's not a super iconic figure yet, and it's perfectly fair to recast when the actor dies. No one will get upset.

@Barighm: I totally agree and have both woman or man audition for the role and see who fits the role. I admire Chadwick Boseman and may want this to happen and not close the show or movie down because there is no Chadwick. As it is in show business and life life and show business must go on.

@lonewolf1044: @Barighm the first film was very iconic, but while Chadwick Boseman did help drive it as its face, it was more because of the idea behind the film and what it represented, not necessarily the main actor. I agree that recasting the main character should not be off the table.

@kutraz: yeah I'm curious to see how they will handle that one but I bet in the end they will just either have the sister become the Black Panther or just have her have a role of her own, but it will be hard to call the movie Black Panther if that is the case.

@kutraz: Didn't he die though? I suppose they could just retcon it, but that would suck.
