BOTS, 9 Dragons shipping out with SwiftCD
Getting free games into players' hands has been working well so far for Acclaim, who last March announced its 1 millionth registered user to its online network. But not everyone can be bothered with lengthy download times. Lucky for those folks, the publisher sent word earlier this week that physical copies of two of its most popular games, BOTS and 9 Dragons, could be shipped to them by way of SwiftCD.com. Visitors to either game's site can order a CD or DVD of the game for a $3.99 shipping and handling fee ($4.99 for international orders).
Tippett Adapts to Montreal
Montreal's Adapt 2007 conference named additional speakers to its lineup today. Delivering the keynote address at this year's digital-art production conference will be Phil Tippett, founder of Berkeley, California-based Tippett Studio. Tippett has amassed an impressive collection of awards over his 30-year career, including two Academy Awards and two Emmys. Also speaking at the event will be Todd Vaziri from Industrial Light and Magic, and Michael Fong of Pixar Animation Studios. The Adapt 2007 conference takes place September 24-28 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Montreal. Tickets for the event are discounted by $100 through August 24.
WCG headed to Spike TV, MTV
Gaming competitions are picking up steam in mainstream media of late. Earlier this month, the World Series of Video Games announced its tournaments would be shown during CBS's Sports Spectacular lineup. This week, the World Cyber Games sends word it's found a home for its tournaments on Spike TV and MTV's affiliates. WCG content will be featured during Spike's Game Head program, and the network will also air the WCG 2007 Grand Final this November. Through MTV's GameTrailers and Xfire services, the WCG will promote its events through short video segments. Xfire users will also have the opportunity to challenge WCG teams through its "Play With the Pros" events.
