The next entry in BioWare's beloved Dragon Age franchise has been shown off at The Game Awards 2020. The game, which was first shown two years ago at The Game Awards 2018, was formally revealed during tonight's show--and it seems that there's no "4" in its name. However, there was also not any confirmation that this will be the final name.

The new trailer also did not feature gameplay footage, but it does reveal that the hero of this new installment will not be a "chosen one." Solas, a character that fans of the series will be familiar with, also pops up. You can check out the reveal trailer below.

Now Playing: Dragon Age Trailer | Game Awards 2020

BioWare had teased a Dragon Age 4 reveal of some sort ahead of tonight's ceremony. A very small tease for the series was also shown during The Game Awards back in 2018. It's been six years since the last entry in the series, Dragon Age: Inquisition, released. That game earned very positive reviews upon its release. GameSpot scored it a 9/10 in our Dragon Age: Inquisition review and called it "a wonderful game and a lengthy pilgrimage to a magical world with vital thematic ties to one we already know."

BioWare has struggled in the years since, with Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem both failing to achieve the high praise of its past games. With any luck, Dragon Age will get it back on the right track.

BioWare has recently seen some staff overturn, with Casey Hudson (general manager) and Mark Darrah (Dragon Age: Inquisition executive producer) recently announcing that they're leaving the studio. However, the studio's current projects will go on as planned.

"This has been a very difficult decision for me," Darrah wrote in his farewell statement. "The team of amazing developers on Dragon Age, make my life fuller and better. They have taught me so much. But the strength of the team is also what makes this possible. I know that Dragon Age won't just survive without me, it will thrive."

BioWare is also working on two new Mass Effect projects--a brand-new game in the series, and a Legendary Edition of the original trilogy, which collects and updates the first three games. The studio is also still working on revamping its beleaguered multiplayer game Anthem. BioWare says it plans to "reinvent the core gameplay loop," but the studio has acknowledged that the redesign is going to be a long process.
