BioWare Producer Asks If You'd Play a Dragon Age "Tactics" Game

Something similar to XCOM or Fire Emblem, Mark Darrah says.

Dragon Age executive producer Mark Darrah has a question for you: "Would you play a Dragon Age Tactics game?" He's launched a Twitter poll asking fans to weigh in. Something to note here is that by "tactics" he says he means something along the lines of tactical franchises like XCOM or Fire Emblem.

Your options are "Yes," "No," "Only on PC," and "Only mobile/handheld." Voting closes later today, so if you want your voice heard, now is the time to submit your response.

There is no guarantee that BioWare will indeed make a turn-based Dragon Age tactics game, of course, but it's still interesting to think about.

Darrah also clarified that if this game were to happen, it would not replace the mainline Dragon Age series, something fans will probably enjoy hearing.

This would also be a "full game," he mentioned.

Like the first Dragon Age, 2014's Dragon Age Inquisition allowed you to play from a top-down view for some portions, which amounted to something of a more tactical experience.

Inquisition is the latest entry in the main series; no new games have been announced.

@Alurit: and you just mean 4X being primarily represented on PC. SRPGs and TRPGs have been numerous on consoles for decades. Of course none of that supports the "PC only. Console crowd won't buy it anyway." comment. Gamers, on any platform, will buy good games.

"PC only. Console crowd won't buy it anyway." Same nonsense elitist said about their glorious FPS games without KB+M. Perhaps you people should stick to buying what you want instead of pretending to know what large groups of people do with their monies.

@magnusstorm: you sure you wanted to send that comment to me? I didn't say the pc elitist BS, I was never an advicate for articifial exclusivity, I just pointed out that there are not many srpgs, trpgs on console anymore, but on handheld, which is not the same as a console

I would like to see it.

Dragon Age Inquisition will be my last DA game in that gameplay.
If i cant control all members in a battle then there is no real controll at all imo.
The other party members never use the right spells or support magic when needed.

Also, the so praised and wanted romancing...you have no freedom to do things unless the game allows it...even when the other member fell in love with you.

@jenovaschilld: I don't get the love of Final Fantasy Tactics really. The AI is so damn bad majority of the times, your enemies are far more powerful forcing you to grind a lot compared to that from Fire Emblem and the story is just shallow and broken.

But hey, that's just me who didn't have a fun time with it

@Artwark: There has always been criticism of the enemies and ai which is fair, the plot and story were praised by many but the north american localization were filled with grammatical errors and poor translation. All of these are fair complaints indeed. By far though these few complaints are minor compared to the whole of all that FFT had to offer at the time. The shear amount of content, classes, battles etc that the cd-rom allowed had never been done before and Yatsumi Matsumi took full advantage of it. There is so much to FFT than a few overpowered enemies and some poor translations. FFT reception globally has been highly reviewed.

It is hard to compare FFT to Fire Emblem, which is a masterpiece in of itself, but also very different of a creature. They both have strategy and not much else. Games like Shining Force, Vandal Hearts and Fallout are all similar but also very different. The remake, Final Fantasy Tactics WOTL helps fix alot of problems and has much better localisation so the story and plot shines through.

@Artwark: It sounds like you may not have used the skill system correctly. I've seen some people who didn't realize there were multiple skill pages. There shouldn't really be any grinding required to win unless you want to level Cloud who appears as a Level 1 character late in the game.

@chibi-acer: You mean the skills that you get by earning Job points which still require you to grind quite a lot?

Even if the grinding isn't required, the fact that the game doesn't tell you in advance that you can't grind or buy items at certain points just proves that the game isn't really all that fun, not to mention how again like I said earlier is just plain bland.

And the AI....oh, the friendly AI is god awful.

I guess I'll vote yes, because I can imagine a Dragon Age tactics game that I think would be really fun ... but I can also imagine one that would suck, and I have no idea what kind Bioware would make. So, yes, I'd play one, but that doesn't mean I'll play the one you make. : \

No...Just fucking no. Put all of your efforts into making RPG's as good as Dragon Age Origins, and Mass Effect. Try a new IP maybe. Just keep your RPG's tactical like Dragon Age Origins, and you're golden. Don't start catering to the mobile games crowd.

While I still think DA universe is super bland, I'd have to to take a serious look at a DA TBS.

On second thought I'd like to see them do this concept under a new, more original IP.

@System4Ever: Dont you think Mark Darrah should be round up and shot for putting it in the first place..... but there's not much to be expected from retarded Bioware, they might as well make games for 3DS! and do more craps. I'm awaiting for the news when they say Devs went out of Business........... they already had a failed IP previous year and now they dont have clue what to do next, if only andromeda sinks! nobody has to take a crap from them anymore! HAPPY WORLD!!!! ^^

@cboye18: Ehh, not really. On the PC you had a top down camera option, and you could move your party around like units in an RTS, but that was about as tactical as it ever got. Origins was very much an RPG.

Well, considering Witcher 3 stole Dragon Age: Inquisition's spotlight, I don't blame BioWare for trying to do something else with their franchise.

I didn't disliked Inquisition, but it just seems a bit trivial nowadays when Witcher 3 is available. I know they're a bit different, but they are still competitors in a way.

@slappy54: I don't think you realize how EA works. EA does not give carte blanche with money, quite the opposite. That's why DA2 was rushed.

@Thanatos2k: They certainly funded MP for Mass Effect 3. Hired a whole new team for it. I can almost guarantee that's the case here. They aren't reassigning the Dragon age or Mass Effect teams for a strategy game.

Oh that's right. Microtransactions. That's why EA was interested.

That is good news that. ESPECIALLY that this "Tactics" DA would not replace DA4. Dragon Age is one of the most in depth and interesting fantasy RPG series out there. I just hope they manage to shy away from Inquisition's action style and go back to the roots of DA Origin and interpret that style of RPG. But hell yea I'd try DA Tactics.

I feel like these questions really miss the point. Dragon age started as an omage to old rpg games and thats why it was good; they intended to make a good game. Now i feel they just use the IP to flood the market with different genres etc make money of an IP just like ubisoft or activision. **** this!
