BioShock Infinite DLC adding new AI companion?

LinkedIn profile of 2K Games dev suggests first expansion for action-shooter will add new AI companion character.

BioShock Infinite's first downloadable content expansion may add a new artificial intelligence (AI) companion character. A 2K Games developer has listed "DLC1" on his LinkedIn page (via Superannuation), with work including "animation and R&D for a new AI companion character."

No Caption Provided

No further details about this character were divulged and an Irrational Games representative was not immediately available to comment.

Elizabeth is the main AI character in BioShock Infinite. It is unclear how this new character, if it is added to the game, would affect Elizabeth's role in the game.

BioShock Infinite's $20 DLC season pass includes three expansions for the first-person shooter, said to provide "hours" of additional gameplay and include new stories, characters, abilities, and weapons.

The next two DLCs after this one will take us to Rapture! And, Elizabeth is with us! I hope somehow, someway she is still alive at the end of the two part DLC story. I suppose anything is possible, just need to find the right lighthouse, right?

Please fix the stuttering first! One good thing about jumping to the next generation is hopefully we will see the END of the Unreal 3 engine.

@mesk14 only an underpowered pc would stutter as both consoles dont have much of that at all. also there is unreal 4... you think that is going to have less? must be dreaming...

@Kanthaka @mesk14 @leviathanwing thanks for the reply,my drivers are up to date,as always. Its just a fact that BI suffers from fps drops which causes the stutter.

The fact is that the Unreal Engine 3 is showing its age,and a game like BI has pushed it past its limit. Its all good though, setting adaptive vsync to half refresh rate, thus locking the fps @ 30 resolves the issue. :)

@mesk14 @leviathanwing Update your video card drivers. I was getting stuttering as well, even on the lowest settings. Updated drivers and smooth sailing from there.

bioshock infinite is perfect for story dlc, because of the alternate universes.

there could be a dlc where the founders are the good guys and actually a minority and you have to establish them firmly and beat booker. a lot of blue vs red banners everywhere, very atmospherical etc.

the possibilities are endless.

I'm hoping that the expansion will go into a little more detail concerning Songbird. Would be interesting to see how he came about and who he was before becoming Songbird. Maybe it can explain why Songbird and Booker have so much in common....

@MrNachobro you know who made songbird? you know where the tech came from to make songbird? you remember the choice you make for elizabeth between the two necklaces? answering your questions would be spoiler filled.

@leviathanwing @MrNachobro I remember all of that. I meant more info about WHO Songbird was. Even the Handymen were citizens before they were mechanized. The necklace choice just further reinforces my statement as to the similarities between Booker and Songbird. My personal theory is that either: Lutece has tried to bring Booker to save Elizabeth more than once, and one of the Bookers was turned into Songbird as the ultimate punishment when he failed. Or that Comstock asked Lutece to build a machine to protect Elizabeth, and Lutece figured who better to protect her than her own father.

I think your starting to see what I mean. Consider that you aren't just dealing with "dimension" shifting but also time travel. The two are connected.Imagine time as a straight line. With Booker at one moment of his life leading inexorably to another, another, another and on till he dies. You aren't the same person when you die as when you turned 10. There are effectively an infinite number of you split in completely different dimensions, always creating more through the act of existing. If you could go back and remove an early link in the chain, ie kill your younger self, nothing afterwards could ever have happened. However up until that point nothing would change. Now add in branches on the side to represent the dimension switching aspect. They could effectively try a near unlimited number of times by being careful how far they go back on any given attempt.

However my point was that they ARE all the same Booker. Which means they didn't NEED to keep bringing our dimension's instance of him repeatedly. Another dimension's Booker couldn't have made the same choices as the one we know. Because its the act of choosing that cause the creation of every parallel universe. Everything that can happen, will happen, and has already happened. All at the same time. Yet its still him. If he comes into contact with the memories from a different version of himself, they become his. Because they ARE his. He made choices, even if he actually had no part in the choosing. But because his mind is only attuned to his own dimension, his own reality, he has no way of realizing it till he gets there.

Its basically the Infinite Worlds theory. Where every choice ever made causes the universe to split itself like an amoeba into an unlimited number of side dimensions that are just out of our ability to sense. So yeah. Sort of naturally convoluted. Ie:The perfect concept to base Bioshock Infinite around.

They are ALL the same Booker. All of the Comstocks are the same Booker. Or most, anyway. I use "our Booker" simply as a convenience to indicate the instance we control throughout the game. You might better call him the source branch Booker. But the whole branching dimensions concept make it tough to remember that we aren't seeing snipets from multiple people's live here. You choose to go left or right but they're both still YOU. This is all ONE singular person. And instead of a timeline that travels straight from past to future, we're essentially taken back, forth, and zig-zag! Constantly shown Booker DeWitt at various stages of his life, with various choices he has or might yet make in all their permutations and the consequences they lead to.

Every Comstock is our DeWitt later in life. More specifically WITHOUT having experienced Columbia already. Again, Robert is the first Lutece any variation of Booker meets. Because when they meet it is an alteration to a timeline that is already in place. The Luteces, having then been betrayed and realizing their error, went back to the same split that they took Anna from and now took our Booker. Which is where the scene you mention takes place. Right at the start of the game. His mind re-writes itself to provide him with some sense of mental stabilty, much as Robert says. They then proceed to coax him down the path that they, and subconsciously he, knows he has to walk to set things as close to "right" as possible. Why do you suppose he "remembers" all his support of the vox after the prison tear? "He" hadn't actually done anything. However his mind melded his version of memory with an altered version where things went differently. Multiple versions, multiple answers to the same question. But when it came down to it, all the same entity; Booker DeWitt. That's why our Booker had to die. The "source" needed to be purged from the whole convoluted mess.

Making any sense? I actually spend a disturbing amount of time thinking about stuff like this, the whole branching dimensions thing I mean, so I feel comfortable arguing my point. Unfortunately that doesn't make me particularly GOOD at actually getting that point across. And just for the record I am enjoying this far more than I did the game itself.

And I am sorry for the walls of text.

If you've forgiven yourself absolutely, how do you come to an extreme at the level of Comstock? They were all at risk of BECOMING Comstock's universe. That was the issue. How can choices split off into different universes if all the possible paths are converging? That was old Elizabeth's gift. Showing her younger self the way to unlock her abilities and see the massive fustercluck everything had become before passing a point of no return. Which old Elizabeth clearly had. I believe that the DeWitt you play as is from an earlier point in the overall timeline. BEFORE the whole Lutece family started their shenanigans, splitting reality 17 different ways from sunday. By letting him see and slowly come to grips with the fact that a good deal of this was going to be on his shoulders, they were hoping to douse the match before the forest could burn down. They were altering their own work by creating an alternative, where "Comstock" had never come into being. Basically they realized that they had meddled in something beyond even their capability to predict or control and were trying to hit the cosmic reset button. Also the first Lutece our Booker ever meets is the brother when Anna is taken.

@SeAzhrei well they did say they have a new AI companion...the only people whom i think are capable of that are the Lutece's..and only Comstock worked with them more closely...unless they are moving away from the 'opening tears' thing...Comstock/Lutece is what i think

*SPOILERS*

He gets baptized then eventually learns about the Lutece's work and thinks he's found a way to atone for all the horrible things he did in war. Then the Lutece's perhaps realize they've created some type of paradox from all the dimensional muddling, go back to before the baptism and pull him into one of the alt realities to work toward fixing things. Then he wakes up in a boat with 2 british people who sound awfully familiar. I always reserve the right to be wrong and I get what you mean, you just want details, but that strikes me as the kind of thing they're most likely to leave to the imagination. I mean they basically danced around it for the entire hall of heroes or whatever it was called. After trying so hard (and to my mind, failing) to be subtle would you really just come out and say "But no, this is what REALLY happened."? They gave us the pieces to put together as we will. That's my guess.

@adrian_cortez94 would be good moving between scenes and seeing how long you can last for with ammo and salts limits. the open areas with rails where allot of fun but over sometimes too quick.
